An aspies way of thinking might be great for the budget, if I can't pay in full I don't buy.

It can't hurt to try, think of FDR "the only thing you have to fear is fear itself. "

Unless you have a lot of money or backers you may not go far, but going anywhere would be a start. For anyone.

Look at Nixon, he didn't win the first time, Ross Perot ran as a 3rd party on his own.

Even if you don't run for an office you may be able to lobby for your ideas. Knew people who did this.

Party affiliation doesn't matter much, it seems most people vote party line rather then by the politicians abilities. Leading to politicians becoming DINO democrat in name only and RINO, republican in name only. Vote for the person not the party.

I prefer the tea party, an acquaintance is a pro gun liberal socialist, and we share a lot of the same opinions about our nations politicians, both feel most are in it for personal gain, and that all positions should have term limits. And to protect our second amendment, if it falls the rest will follow.

Appearance and speaking ability help, Obama very likely studied Hitler, we did in public speaking class, look at his similar styles of speaking, camera angles, similar policies (prior to genocide) such as gun control ideas and others.

Reagan started as a democrat, Lieberman swapped parties too.

If TV was around FDR, Lincoln and others may not have been elected, it TV hadn't been around Nixon probably would have beat Kennedy.

The main unspoken rule of politics is, Tell the people what you think they want to hear, and do as you wish, especially if you are in the favored party of your location,

in my state our idiot governor has increase taxes it seems by over 25% factoring in hidden and new taxes and fees! and still got reelected, now he is too busy campaigning for president and trying to make us like California, then doing his job. Many people are trying to leave and there is talk of it splitting like Virginia did in the 1800's.

If you think you can handle it, the pressures, name calling, social interaction, invasion of privacy, etc, go for it, I have done many things that people said I would never be able to do, (I noticed last week most are on the recommended list for aspies.)

Democrat Republican or other, the media is never your friend.

Good luck, try not to let others live your life for you

It's a serious and perplexing question! As an older Aspie, it's something I have struggled with for years. I have always been motivated to contribute to society, but found the U.S. to be a society that does not consider what I have to offer of any value, and indeed rejects what I consider to be necessary for human happiness and health. Honesty, a desire for fairness, justice, tolerance, intelligent analysis and constructive criticism are constantly advertised as desirable values, but the reality is quite different! When I was young I was lied to: You're an intelligent and talented person; you have much to offer society. But after years of trying to 'help' and getting thoroughly beaten up for it, I realized that most people are closed minded, conformist, not very intelligent or curious, and keep making the same mistakes over and over. They love drama and emotional turmoil, and have what I call "information rage." If you dare provide facts that might alleviate their self-inflicted suffering you are likely to become the object of undeserved anger.

This said, I think that an Aspie who is willing to jump into the savage world of politics would be more likely to succeed at the grass roots or local level where change is possible. Pick a concrete goal that is achievable and go for it - cleaning up neighborhoods; safety issues; removing discriminatory codes and exposing wasteful spending - real things. Taking on the impossible, like ridding the world of stupid politicians is not realistic!

Hi!

I just signed the petition "Tina Brown, The Daily Beast: Apologize for Calling Autistic Men Pedophiles" on Change.org.

It's important. Will you sign it too? Here's the link:

Thanks!
