Both Aspies and NTs are capable of causing harm to the earth and society like pollution, homicides, sexual harassment, drive by shootings, etc. It should be that both sides should be concerned about their own consequences for their actions and not just those of others. I heard that lots of Aspies do fit into society very well, so it makes it almost harder for NTs to be afraid of us. The only thing that I can think of that is fearful when it comes to ASD's is tantrums and meltdowns (I could be wrong though). Yet, there's always a solution for these types of events.

That's what I've been thinking for the past few years. I think they are afraid of what we can do, just like the normal humans were afraid of the mutants from X-Men (and while none of us can control weather or sprout titanium claws from our hands, we have certain qualities that make us extremely resistant to corruption, which means the government would have a harder time controlling us.) For now I think they are hoping that bad publicity will ruin us. It's only a matter of time before they attempt a mass conversion; or worse, genocide.

But when push comes to shove, they may outnumber us, but we are smarter than they are, for the most part. If they unite against us, we must unite right back. Just like in Star Wars and Code Geass, we'll form a rebellion the likes of which have never been seen.

Adamantium claws. I have these by the way

Sometimes I wonder if NTs aren't on some level profoundly afraid of autistics, especially aspies, which is why they're so intent on getting rid of us. Imagine for a moment that 1 in 150 children were suddenly being born with brains that work profoundly differently from what the human race has become accustomed to over 100,000 years of evolution. Also, imagine that these kids LOOKED normal, but had capabilities in some areas that exceeded what average people could do. Wouldn't you think that every single government on the planet would be trying to find an excuse to wipe out this possible threat to their power? The most extreme cases of dysfunction would be highlighted on every TV set in the world. It would be called an "epidemic disease" in need of a "cure". The groundwork would be laid for the great cull.

Well, this is what Aspergers must look like to NTs. It must look like X Men come true, before their eyes. Anybody who's a X Men aficionado knows that in the movies the non-mutant people try to put ever greater restrictions on the mutants and eventually propose to cure them, at which point it's them or us. The mutants find themselves in a war for their very existence. Having observed the result on an alternate history board when somebody proposed what if X Men really happened, I think that NTs would be profoundly scared of any mutation or seeming mutation in humans. They would try to eliminate it, permanently. They would try and "cure" the mutants. Failing that, it would be oven time.

NTs have the capability to wipe out a whole class of people in very methodical fashion. Hitler did it with the Gypsies (Rom)-they disappeared in Europe as a result of the Final Solution.

To large extent I agree. I can't tell the reason - it might very well be what you said - but it is clear they wanna get rid of us once and for all, either through "curing" us or by screening out autistic fetuses. As the world is now I doubt they'll actually open "the oven" but I can easily see that change in a heart beat. It has happened before, it will happen again, and we can easily become the target.

I have to correct one thing though: Gypsies weren't wiped out in Europe. A lot of them were killed, true, but the descendants of the survivors are still around. In Romania they make out 2-3 % of the population, 4-5 % of the Bulgarian population and in Hungary they make out somewhere between 2 and 11% of the total population (very uncertain numbers, but that's the best wiki could do).

People openly admit they're scared of me. One girl that said "everyones scared of you", explained it by saying "you've got this sense about you". I don't really know what the hell that means but I'm guessing its the fact I don't display normal body language so I'm not as readily predictable. I also have lots of extreme ideas, maybe that has something to do with it. Nobody knows I have mild autism so I'm guessing they think I'm just insane or something.

Wow, everyone says that to me, too! The only people who aren't scared of me are my online friends, my best friend, and a couple of fourth graders!

Not all NT's are afraid of aspies. Those that aren't afraid of us accept us for who we are. People who know me very well aren't afraid of me. Most of them know about my diagnosis.

But I have to admit that some are very afraid of us. I believe that a lot of the fear is due to the natural human instinct of fear of the unknown. The stigma of the autism spectrum can also cause some NT's to fear us. Two girls back in high school that I didn't know at all found out about my diagnosis and have been afraid of me ever since. For me, most NT's that fear me are ones I don't know at all.

Once in school, a classmate said of me (admittedly, while I was in the midst of a meltdown), "Whoah, he's the only kid in school I'm afraid of."

Most people aren't afraid of aspies, though they in general find the aspies somewhat awkward - and that creeps them out. It is mostly an issue about facial expressions, body language, tone of the voice, and not so much about the intellectual skills (though people in general are fearing science too, because most people are unable to understand what science is).

I for one don't "fear" anyone (NT Here) but I do notice "quirks" which usually peak my curiousity. Before my son was born (pdd/nos) I had no clue about autism other than "full blown autistic" kids that could not communicate or things of that nature. I had more than one friend who fit the "so smart their weird" category, of course now that I am armed with knowledge I realize that these friends were spectrum but I was never afraid of them, a little intimidated by them yes, I mean I felt absolutely STUPID talking to them as I couldn't keep up with more than 10% of their intellect LMAO but I just chalked the lack of "normal" social skills up to the fact that they didn't have time for our petty ideas of normality.

NT's fear Aspies because Aspies are different. NT's are afraid of what they don't understand.

Typical NT response. There's the door. See ya.

Alex, keep the dogs out of the bar (NTs out of WP).

Well at least I can see that ignorance and intolerance knows no boundries. Obviously you did not bother to read my previous post on the matter at hand. Yet I am sure you scream that you want to be treated like everyone else even though you have a "condition" but when someone does respond to your little ignorant quips you immediately drop back into short stereotypical remarks, want to start going after my irish heritage next?

Maybe you should stop being so self centered and defensive and welcome the opportunities to educate and help people understand.

You can't teach people that don't want to know, nor can any Aspie tell an NT about AS without the NT thinking that the Aspie is "full of it" or "above the norm". Thats the reality of diagnosing a condition such as AS in an uncaring world.

There's a clear battle line between NT and Aspies at the moment, especially with all this nonsense that Aspies "have it easier because of their condition". A condition WE NEVER WANTED to have in the first place. AS is nothing special.

more distinctions need to be made here. it seems to be that, while a majority of NTs are the sort that wants to be like other people & likes other people to be like them, a smaller but significant proportion prefers to be different from other people & appreciates difference in others. i have almost always found tolerance, & often support, among the latter, who tend to be alienated just as much in their own way (cf the first group i mentioned). conformity in our pseudo-individualistic age is a serious problem, true. but it does not help anyone to look at this in an alarmist way.

the first thing that comes to mind, is the fact that the group of like-minded (i associate these with Myers-Briggs dominant Sensing, mostly Extraverted Sensing types--but this pattern is not limited to those) is susceptible to what they are told; & if they are told there is a new minority among them that needs to be respected, eventually they will raise their kids to respect them & it will not always be prejudicial to grow up as one of that minority.

another point, is that there are what might be termed healthfear-crazes, or hot topics that sweep through society, by the same media, influencing people's insecurities into taking irrational & sometimes drastic action. maybe profit lies behind these, maybe they just happen & charlatans latch onto them. the thing about childhood immunization falls under this head. basically, put the facts out & discredit the fearmongers, is the way to proceed.

finally, i have come to understand that resistance to difference is not all the same even in those who are like-minded; & autism-spectrum affects them more viscereally even than skin color or physical deformity. this may be because they cannot imagine a mind that is otherwise & not inimical. or else maybe it is not even that close to being a thought.

this last may be beyond remedy; hence the need to write protection explicitly into our laws.

m.
