Are NTs afraid of aspies?

No, more the 'tried, tested, tinkered and improved' model. Actually a good metaphor coming up: People don't fear us, they simply look at us like we're a solid-state drive attached to a toaster. They just haven't discovered the utility of patterened toast yet. I mean crumpets would be gorgeous if little toaster filaments went on and of according the code, so that all the little holes would be soft whilst the flat surface would be slightly crispy...

I think that a lot of NTs around me (like the ones at work that don't know me very well) probably think of me as distant and odd. But the ones that are closer to me know I am approachable and not that distant. I am socially awkward. But not one to be afraid of. I have learned from some that certain people have thought I was stuck up or a snob---that came from me not associating with those people because it was too awkward for me to associate with them since I didn't know them that well. I believe that some people view us with autism as mysterious. And it is possible that some of these people could be afraid of those things that are mysterious. But from my overall experiences, I believe most people view us with autism as odd or eccentric.

Most people are scared of people who are different.

Fear is a big part of most lives. Besides other people, they have an avoidence of lifes dangers, beyond the point of common sense.

It produces a market for insurance, big SUVs, guns, homes in safe neighborhoods, with alarm systems, and politics is mostly fear mongering.

In most of this they express their fear by spending money, voting for Big Brother, and keeping their doors locked.

They rarely get a chance to express their fears, and I think the autistic seem harmless. I have gotten some strange reactions from strangers, stranger yet when I look them in the eye and start moving closer.

Fight or flight are both fear responses, What they would attack they will also run from.

I do not think they fear aspies, I think they live in fear and we notice it. We can manipulate it.

For being a type that is supposed to have lacks of human understanding, some view expressed by the dogs of psychobabble, from other views, the better dogs of psychobabble, like the Markrams, it is not a lack on our part, but an excess of perception. The Intense World View, that we are overloaded by real perceptions that are beyond normal ranges.

They do not see each other as we see them. We see what they can hide from each other. I have been told we look into their minds and souls, full perception, and it frightens them. Mostly we do this with no intent, just natural for us, but they feel like were are standing there watching them in the shower.

They talk of us lacking boundries, what they mean is they lack defenses. We do not have to say anything and they feel invaded. They can feel our perception.

At the same time they are unable to read our intent, I have been told my eyes have all the feeling of a snake. Nothing they can relate to, like the cold blank eyes of the shark. We look upon them as predators do.

We are know for having sharper vision, picking up motion in the distance, better hearing, and the ability for intense focus.

We make them feel inferior, in danger, and they respond by throwing a rock at a bear or lion. Not an intelligent response, a last ditch fear response.

Try wearing dark sunglasses.

Before we start barking about any superior abilities can we actually prove them? Also I am under no illusions that the NTs feel we are out to get them and torch their homes like a horde of Mongol invaders.

To be honest I have heard scarier stuff come out of the mouths of some supremacists on here than I have about autism speaks! Mass genocide of non-autistics kind of stuff. It's nice to know that I am in the middle of a battlefield fought by two groups of zealots.

Ok I didnt read this entire thread but this is my opinion. To start off with autism is a disorder which primarily a deficit in human communication. See pretty much majority the characteristics that many normal people would use to describe unpleasing personalities describes autism. NTs dont like antisocial people who dont make human connections. Why else is having no friends considered abnormal and bad to NTs.

NTs are concerned about autism mainly due to the misrepresentation of autism in the media that we're mostly low functioning. With an autistic child(even aspies), we have weak communication skills. When it comes to growing into a fully functional job. We have trouble finding jobs and supporting ourselves so we often need assistance. Those government assistance programs costs money out of our tax dollars. If we cant work, we need to go on social security if we dont have parents or relatives to support us and the government. With autism, all the therapies and services costs money too. The medical costs are high. So NTs are seeing us as a financial burden.

So basically it accounts to a bunch of neurological, unwanted misfits who have unpleasing personalities and cant financially support ourselves.

Most people are scared of me. What I've noticed that's interesting is the people who aren't scared of me are the ones who interact directly, the playful ones, who mostly happen to be the same people Simon Baron-Cohen says have 'zero empathy'.

While I found the fictional war scenarios amusing I have to live in the real world. Persecution is something just about every class experiences with few exceptions. NT's do not fear aspiers per say but rather fear as aspie because they don't understand them. When they are so used to being lazy and assuming some one means one thing when they mean another they get mad because they want to be right and want to be comfortable with their typical ways. So rather then learn and establish intelligence they remain a patch of simple minded plebeians who would rather cause problems than create a solution. aspies have been forced to think deeper on the means of communication rather then forever remain automated like the NT's. Given their are highly intellectual NT's as they got lucky they were not cursed with communication difficulties. For some reason high intellect brings about social retardation and high social abilities bring about stupidity. Those who have both or not deficient in one or the other are rare.

I don't think either is superior to the other frankly. I do not believe it even to be an evolutionary standard and I believe aspies have always been around but their was no term to put on them other than eccentric individuals. Some of the most brilliant minds were aspies. I do believe aspies are strong suited in their specific category which benefits mankind as a whole to divulge into deeper more prominent subjects while the majority of NT's are better suited for the more numerous menial jobs. Unfortunately they use their advantage to get into jobs and offices they are no where near capable of handling. They just know how to work the system. In any case NT's and aspies need each other. Sadly the stupid majority rules.

Scythe you are right. They get mad when we try to explain ourselves, just think of how many teachers would hold grudges against us because we were trying to say one thing but they thought we were being smart asses but we were just trying to prove a point and not be nasty at all.

I think autism is just a label to describe someone who appears to have a deficit in communication, but this is subjective and biased because we live in a world full of NT's, run by NT's for NT's. Meaning that we are a minority neurotype who is expected to understand everyone else, but everyone else dosen't need to understand us. We have to to somehow fit into all the institutions and social codes around us, but they don't need to make accomadations for us. Of course in this situation it is going to look to society as if we have a "deficit" in communication.

And I don't buy the idea that there is a diametrically-opposed inverse relationship between "social skills" on one side and "intelligence" on the other. There are just different people with different minds and personalities, and the ones who are alike will understand each other, and the ones who are different won't. But unfortunately we still live in a world where conformity is god, and this idea permeates all the facets of society. (I have school in mind especially here.)
