Autism Politics

By Nathan Young

I've observed autism advocacy for some 10 years primary focused on the self-advocacy movement. The pride advocates at times call the individuals whom kind of stay away from it curebies. A new term for the pride advocates might just be the pride-mites. Easily pushing agenda's based on the principles of "nothing for us without us" but on the other hand sometimes people disvalue the opinions and ideas of individuals whom are not pride advocates and whom have autism. Believe it or not pride might just have a good side and a bad side and on the other side of the spectrum of politics pity is not always good. How pity might be defined might just not be percise enough to establish in context a definitive understanding.

Some believe all the banter between organizations concerning the perception of autism was to create awareness. Others believe pride people at times attempt to evade the human right to treatment and research and by doing so may be connected to special interests in source playing upon people with disabilities self-esteems attempting to indirectly prevent mandatory funding for treatment and services. An individuals self-esteem is important yet differs a % of time from pride which may be like other pride based politics that can create intellectual, political and social arrogance and blindness leading toward a lack of open and respectable debate.

Few are the times issues like the following are talked about in an open way.

1. I am a person not a puzzle.

2. Cure for autism means people with autism are like Jewish people and the Nazi genocide.

3. Why did President Obama appoint an anti-cure advocate and not a pro-treatment and research self-advocate?

4. The war on autism is against people with autism and is a life threatening danger.

For my opinion and other people to add their own opinion you yourself must ask these and other questions. Some people might not like this kind of open debate. You may get trashed on blogs so don't use your real name unless you don't mind becoming famous in the underground online autism world!
