Just as the title says. It was for a TV program on an afrikaans South African channel called Kyknet. The TV series is about various disorders and disabilities, although I'm on the second episode of a 2-part episode on the autism spectrum. The first episode was on classic autism, while the second one, which I was on was on Asperger Syndrome. Unfortunately, while I thought that I would take up the whole episode, it turns out that they also interviewed another aspie, so I'll only take up half of the show and come on after him. I hope that I don't only take up the last 10 minutes or something. Although most of the show is in afrikaans, they asked me questions in english because my afrikaans isn't so good. I don't know if they'll have any of the shows online, but if they do, I'll provide a link to my one when it comes out.

Can you put it on the YouTube?

I don't know. I'm not a member of YouTube and remember that there's also the copyright issue. As I said, if it is put online, I'll post a link to it. Here's the website for the channel in case you're interested:

http://beta.mnet.co.za/kykNET/

The specific series is called "n' lewe met ..." (english translation: "a life with ...") but it's not showing at the moment and the particular episode that I'm on will only show in September.

Sorry for digging up this thread. The show I spoke about in the OP aired last night. Here's a link to a description of the show in english:

http://www.medihelp.co.za/en/MedihelpProducts/LivingWithSeries/nlewemet/EpisodeInfo/AspergerSeSindroom1Nov2011.aspx

To quote their description about me:

Quote:
Jonathan Hartman was diagnosed at a young age purely by coincidence by Dr Paul de Wet, who will also be a guest in studio. He struggled to cope socially and at the age of 11 his parents were told that he was unfit for further formal education. But his mother refused to accept this verdict and decided to enrol him at a special school. Here, he accidentally ended up in a maths class for older learners one day and solved a maths problem that was supposed to be far above his capabilities. That’s when his mother realised that Jonathan had a unique talent for maths and science. Since then, he has attained a B.Sc. degree in Physics as well as an honours and master’s degree cum laude from the University of Johannesburg, and is currently doing his doctorate. He is also employed full-time as a researcher at the university.

Some people here might also find Daantjie's story interesting. I will be getting a copy of the program but I don't know if I can post anything on Youtube due to copyright reasons, unfortunately.

What do you guys think?

I think your mother should be commended, you should be congratulated and that your story should be added alongside Temple Grandin's!

Seconded! :)

What was it like being interviewed for the show?

As usual the dividing line between institution and sub-par living standards and high-flying scientific job for those with hidden talents is on a knife-edge.

Asperger's is usually on the high-functioning end of the spectrum. The episode last week was about low-functioning autism.

It only links to the show's description, unfortunately. I'm not sure that you can watch it on-line.

I didn't say aspergers or low-functioning. I said said what was true. The dividing line between sub-par living standards and a high-flying scientific job was a chance event.
