The stifling effect of "class warfare" & suici
A recent article about a teen with Aspergers committing suicide due to relentless bullying, which worsened when he moved - classic case of out of the frying pan, into the fire - illustrates the profound need to beef up anti-bullying policies in schools and teach neurodiversity with the increasing numbers of those on the spectrum. Site is below, and the first follow-up quote that accompanied it is also pasted, below - basically describing a "class warfare" system to push down those on the spectrum who can have the ability to change the world - it's one of the most profound things I've ever read...

"I agree. I was bullied horribly in school and still suffer from it years later and will have to go to therapy for the rest of my life. It has truly ruined my life. I was a very smart person who should have done great things in my life but turned to drugs not only fit in, but to help me deal with all the torture. I will never be the same or succeed in the way I should have and it's all because of bullying. If you don't think bullying is a big deal, then you need to look at what has happened to me. I was always too scared to try to get help because I thought that would make things worse. And back then it would of because everybody always said that this was part of growing up. It's not and should have never been accepted to be that way. I was on track to being the next Bill Gates or Steve Jobs but I'll never live to be my full potential because of the mistakes bullying made me fall into in order to get through every torturous day back in school. Nobody can make it in an oppressive society that makes the greatest minds in the world feel like hopeless losers who don't fit in. Jocks are some of the most pathetic and destroying members of our society and have always been protected unlike the truly gifted members of society. Sports are just a past time that does nothing to help advance society unlike intellectual minds who are demonized in our society. It's no wonder that some of what would have been the greatest minds choose suicide over the suffering they face..."
Bullying isn't the problem. Schools should teach philosophy to students from grade school through High School. That way people are smarter and more spiritual and don't do stupid things to people. The world would be a much better place if philosophy was emphasized in all realms of society.
They'd probably just learn better words and arguments to put other people down.

Are you saying that quotes such as "It is not what goes into a mans mouth that defiles him, but what comes out - that is what defiles him" would be considered ammunition? Or do you think it would be explored, and possibly even discussed at home given the appropriate conditions, e.g. this quote was an assignment to be explored, and parents must include their input.
This would get the parents, kids and possibly even the teachers thinking. Debate, and discussion would flow through the room, and hopefully the hall ways. It would turn into an epicenter of linguistics, and logic. Rather than a battle field like you see today.

Yeah that all feels right but power and the resources that are on hand will effect everything. What you're putting forth is a very middle class way of seeing things.

if you've studied philosophy enough you will know that people want to see each other die to lessen competition for resources. an anti bullying policy would lessen competion. learning philosophy would let them have a greater understanding of what they are doing. the less agressive would be disgusted by it. the more agressive would discover their justification that the point of mankind is to bully the weak until they kill themselves.
I agree.

Uhh this bothers me....first of in my experience these anti-bullying policies just make things easier for the bullies, all they have to do is mess with someone till they can't take it anymore and end up doing something stupid so they can get in trouble. The person being screwed with till they break is not the bully.......idiots. Sorry that is just my opinion on what I've seen of anti-bullying policies
Also doing drugs to be cool? wtf?...........I think it would be more likely turning to drugs in that situation would be more of an attempt to kill the pain then be cool. But I guess I just don't see what's so cool about doing drugs.
And finally I'm no Bill Gates so I cannot argue that what I went through is wrong because I could have done something great, whatever I don't have any special talents I feel like a hopeless loser but what is to say I have that terribly great of a mind.

It's called "Intellectual Bullying", where a bully will use anything and everything he's learned to intimidate and control others, isntead of just using his knowledge to better himself.
You can lead a fool to knowledge, but you can not make him think.
Regardless of whether we teach philosophy in secondary schools...
The fact of the matter is schools need to be proactive when it comes to bullying. Sure, mediation and counseling programs can help, but the school should have a zero-tolerance policy on bullying that is both vocal on the issue and makes an example at those who bully (definitely not both the victim and the bully!).
Hrmph.
Just stop teaching people that being different is the same as being bad/wrong.
When the bully becomes the odd one out, instead of the powerful voice of the majority, the bully will cease to have power. When the bully ceases to have power, bullying will cease to be common behavior.
Stop setting a sh***y example and it will go away-- or anyway become much less common-- in a generation or two.
It's as easy-- and as difficult-- as that.
