I just realized that my message may have come out stronger than intended. While I certainly don't think autism should be "cured," I do fully support the development of people with autism, through true communication. To me, autism is a communication problem, and we develop all individuals by properly communicating with them, in their language. So, my position is: development and growth, yes. Cure, no.
Autistic people can be miscommunicated to the point of becoming underdeveloped, yes. Underdevelopment is a concern. But we should address the development and communication issues, and not view autism as an illness. At least as much as possible. That is my point.
