That Promotions are based upon subjective social criteria rather than objective performance data...

That is discriminating against people with AS.

In the same way mensa discriminates against people with low IQ, Many jobs, policy aside, discriminate against those with a low EQ (Emotional intelligence quotent). Hate to say it but you have to live with it.

I don't get it at all. It wasn't even funny. How does it have anything to do with AS?

Wait until you try to get a "real" job... then you will understand.

This isn't limited to Aspies. MANY of we "nerdy" NTs face this kind of challenge too. Nothing worse than being passed up for promotion by someone with less skills, less education, and less experience that you TRAINED, just because he plays golf and has "Executive hair".

Define real job?

I have had jobs before and I still don't get it.

I find that offensive. Who is to say I haven't had a "real" job? I work very hard at what I do. It takes a lot of time and patience. I work hard for every penny I earn. I'd say that is a real job!

OK,... since you didn't grasp the quotes around "real", how about...

A professional level/college required job that 17 year olds are not likely to have.

The cartoon is about that kind of job.

Jimbeaux & Asmodeous are talking about that kind of job.

That you don't get that is rather telling.

I'm not belittling the work you do. Hell, despite my age & degree "all" I have Been able to get are jobs I could have, and often did, as a Highschooler. But the fact remains, unless you are career-tracking to RUN the type of establisment that typically hires teens, then the "executive hair" thing really does not play into the HR scene as much as it does for "white collar" jobs.

BTDT, got the T-shirt.

The very short and simple translation:
Bosses tend to promote people they like becouse they like them.

It's not meant to be funny, it's just sad becouse that's how it works in most cases.

Yep. Just that it's WORSE for Aspies who either CAN'T or, at the very least have work 10X as hard at being a False Suck Up, than the NTs who get screwed by the same thing.

Hmmm......employment discrimination law in the UK appears to have teeth in that respect but the catch is that you have to be in a recognised vulnerable group (black, religious, gay, disabled etc.), and nerds aren't one of those :( Might stand some chance if you're diagnosed with ASD, you could then claim it was down to that, and force them to reveal the criteria they used that led to your rejection. I suppose it would help if you'd actually told them you were disabled (if you were).

I think public sector jobs in the UK are more under the control of anti-discrimination law than private jobs, and by statute the boss cannot use subjective criteria to select candidates. Never tested it though. Dunno what the situation is in the USA, I once heard that they hire and fire pretty much as they like - hope not, it sounds horrendous 8O Anybody know more about the law in this respect?

Of course I know that what goes on in reality is often not what's officially going on. One former boss of mine said outright that he "wasn't having another bloody woman" for a post. Eyebrows were raised but nobody blew any whistles. I could see the guy's point - the previous (female) job holder had been a feisty, bone idle a**hole - but it doesn't justify his over-reaction of course.
