eat a lot and lift heavy. You might think you are eating enough, but chances are you are not. I suggest looking into a diet for ectomorphs. Which I am assuming is your body type (very skinny body type with a small frame). You're going to have to eat a lot and if you start lifting trust me you will want food. You need to eat protein
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/maki1.htm and also make sure you're getting enough calories. I get about 3,000-3,500 calories a day or atleast I try to. You're needs will be different than mine however, so again you need to do alittle research.

exactly. Proteins are a must and caloric intake would need to be adjusted for body type as well as how much muscle mass you are trying to maintain or increase. You also have to get your caloric intake above what you are burning per day. Sources of burn including natural metabolism as well as daily activities such as work, exercise and whatnot. There is a lot of stuff online about it and when I get the chance I will post some resources.

Oh yeah. I recommend you start following a 5x5 routine with weight training for atleast a few months, especially if you're an ectomorph.

posted in a few other threads about increasing metabolism. You can do the reverse if you want to gain weight.

To slow metabolism:
Eat at irregular times
Eat only a few times a day (large amounts)
Drink high sugar drinks (like coke etc) - they have high calories and are shown not to trigger any hunger satisfaction reflexes.
I would say have many high fat foods but this can have other health impacts (eg cholesterol etc). So no more than 20% diet in fats.

High volumes of fluid will stretch stomach allowing you to eat larger meals.

Eating right before sleeping (as metabolic rate decreases while sleeping).

Eat adequate protein (more than 1.5g per kg of bodyweight will not gain mass any faster), and make the rest carbs (preferably high GI ones ie sugar).

Lift heavy weights.

Ensure adequate sleep every night.
