I guess this isn't really a nutritional question, but I've heard a claim as to why some people retain fat more than others has to do with their body's pH levels. For example, a person that has an acidic pH may retain more fat to keep the the level from going to far acidic. Any idea if there is any truth to this claim?

Your assertion that omnivorous diets are healthier than "veggie" ones implies there is some magical nutrient only found in meat.

Not at all. Its simply that humans dont break down, digest, and utelise plant proteins as well as we do Animal proteins. Its not the ratio, its the delivery, and the cellular structures surrounding the nutrients themselves. Its called "Bioavailability" and its not the same between different species. Even in 2 species as close as chimps and humans there can be a vast difference between whats Bioavailable to us in a banana and a Steak.

Seprately Its whats NOT in meat thats in grains thats killing us. all the massive energy stores that were not capable of processing out that we dont need.

Are egg whites really the most bioavailable protein? I'm tempted to buy them in bulk.

Actualy thats kind of a stupid pseudo-science thing that they have going on with the whole Eggwhite thing ...

Its all predicated on this Idea that you're going to get high cholesterol if you ever ingest an egg YOLK, and thats just not true. Actually Yolks have a higher bioavailability than the whites , so , of course so does just eating a damned egg.

But the yolks=cholesterol death thing is b.s. anyway. Its a "Paper Tiger". Turns out one of the guys from tulane did the math over at BBing.com a few years back and to raise your cholesterol to even MODERATELY dangerous levels by eating egg yolks yould have to down like 4 dozen of them a day for over a year. And not work out . There are so many other things you can do to mitigate your cholesterol, like using Palm Oil, Peanut Oil, or Coconut Oil, Ratcheting down your Hi Glycemic index intakes, take out all your Trans fats ...

But actually (and this is just off the top of my head) I think some more exotic meats may be higher bv, but whites are only 88 (its not a % thing) I think ostrich was higher tho or something odd like that, cant remember.

The following is a list of food and their bioavailability rating.
Whey Protein isolates blends: 110-159
Whey Concentrate (lactalbumin): 104
Whole egg: 100
Cow’s milk: 91
Egg white (albumin): 88
Fish: 83
Beef: 80
Chicken: 79
Casein: 77
Soy: 74
Rice: 59
Wheat: 54
Beans: 49

If I ate only protein for a few weeks (plus vitamins and supplements), would that be unhealthy?

Vitamins and suppliments are no match for whole food sources. A few weeks wouldnt kill you, but you really need Diatary fiber, especially from sources like Broccoli, Spinach, Kale, Green Beans, Mustard Greens, etc. some people get backed up if they dont have that.

But what you're talking about is basically an Atkins type thing. While its okay for a few weeks, and even has some pretty dramatic Fat Loss results they pretty much peter out to a trickle after 3-4 weeks, and can be reproduced pretty readily by keeping your high GI source foods out of your diet.

IF you're going to try such a thing i would reccomend two products ...

i think part of the reason there is so much conflict in the field of nutrition is the varying gut flora in humans, it can vary hugely from person to person and plays an absolutely massive role in so many parts of our life. Gut flora influences our moods, personality and brains and of course the physiology of our whole bodies. I think it really should be the first thing to consider if you seriously want to look at nutrition scientifically.

The gut flora is an an intermediate step between you and your food.

It seems the study of gut flora and subtypes is really in it's infancy but the technology to understand it is there

i don't know much about it to be honest but i know it is seriously important

i guess as always wikipedia is a good place to start and it should be reliable and balanced unlike most sites about nutrition!
