The Chicago Bears. I first started watching when they made it to the Superbowl XLI back in '07, but they lost to the Colts.

Oh Im sorry to hear that  Going to be a rough year for you guys I think. That defense is brutally bad.

I, am a Giants fan myself. And Im not in a much better boat. This is a reason why I love fantasy football.

Yeah. Brian Urlacher retired, Peppers is a Packer, Tillman is a Panther, and Lance Briggs? He just retired himself. Probably a good idea, though. And whose idea was it to get rid of Devin Hester?

Eli Manning just isn't what he was. Neither is big brother Peyton. You'll always have Superbowl 42 when the Giants ruined the Patriots perfect season.

Yeah well Cutler is a disaster, and I think Marshall's going to have a great year with the Jets. Not sure what the thinking was there. I think Marshall forced his way out though.

Eh, Eli never was a great QB. Just always has that knack for the 2 minute drill. I believe, statistically, he's in store for a career year in the 2nd yr of McAdoo's offense. But overall the team will be mediocre because they are already decimated in the defensive backfield. Worst set of safeties in the league most likely. And our best pass rusher just blew half his hand off, or damn near close to it. Only hope for the Giants is the fact that the NFC East is so weak. Bears aren't so lucky looking up at Green Bay.

So, you do fantasy football at all?

Nope. I haven't ever done Fantasy Football.

The Bears shut out Cleveland 24-0. That's cool. They are 3-1 this preseason. Meanwhile, they cut Tim Jennings who was picked by Tampa Bay.

Oh, yeah, I forgot they got rid of Brandon Marshall, too. No kidding, I don't know what that guy was thinking with those fireworks.

So they are facing the Packers first. The Packers lost Jordy Nelson to a season-ending injury, though.

Fantasy football is alot of fun. Gets you more involved with knowing all the players around football and is a fun way to compete with your football knowledge. Being suck a sports dork that I am I've played fantasy football and baseball for years. I know both CBS Sports and Yahoo have free leagues. Maybe you should try one. Its a really fun hobby. There are even people who play professionally and make a living off of it.

I dont really ever put much faith into anything that happens in the preseason. Sometimes a few no name guys start to shine a bit, but mostly its a waste of time for the NFL to make more money.

I thnk Brandon marshall just complained his way out of Chicago. You know how it is, contract or not, you can complain your way into a trade if you are a superstar. Now It's all on Alshon Jeffrey who has been hurt all preseason. Eddie Royal will probably make some plays for you guys...

Good time for the Bears to meet Green Bay the first time. Maybe they can steal a win since it's the first game yet. Doubt it tho. Pack will probably win like 38-13 or something like that.

Well, Reggie Wayne requested to be released and he got it.

You may be right. If a player gets seriously hurt, they'll lose him before the season really starts. Does football or any other sport really need more than one (If any) of these preseason games?

It's all about revenue. Pre-season isn't good for player health, coaches are not fans of it, GM's are not fans of it; but owners and the league love it. It generates hundreds of millions in cash, so don't expect it to end anytime soon.

Not without the concession of adding regular season games- which the players do not want either.

I think what needs to be redone is overhaul the preseason games to be more like scrimmages. Dont play an actual game with a score, but play situational football without full contact. Full speed in pads, but without a real clock or score. First team offense will run a few packages of red zone tries, maybe one drive each. Whatever teams really want to practice. People will still pay to see this. Could be fun actually. maybe 7 on 7's down the field a few times. It'd be quirky and weird for real games, but sorta add a fun to watching that's missing for most real football fans anyway. Most people who go are season ticket holders who are forced into buying these as a condition for having season tickets or getting into a post-season ticket package. It's not like 90% of those people are choosing to pay to go to preseason games. They are the tickets people just give away, and many dont even use. The whole thign needs to be overhauled.

I do three weeks of the above in early august. Then have one full speed preseason game like we have today, an off week, then week 1.

Sorry to break it to you, but none of that matters. If the NFL can make money doing it they will continue to make money doing it. There's also advertising at stake and market presence (more games = more notoriety = more money). As long as people continue to pay attention to preseason games the NFL will continue to squeeze money out of it. Now, if fans just stopped following and watching then the NFL wouldn't be generating money and would likely change the system.

Not because I care for a particular team, but I do enjoy the unity it advances for our communities and families. It is fun to go to games, even though us autistics are very sensitive to loud noise and large crowds! Enjoy the season!

I disagree. They will have to change the system. The players are becoming increasingly against the length of the preseason. The attendance figures in preseason games have sharply declined, which impacts revenue. There is a push across professional sports to introduce changes that make the game "more interesting". My proposed preseason format would inject alot more interest- thus more money. If for nothing else because it's new. Preseason games, I don't believe, are included in the major TV deals with FOX and CBS, or DirectTV as they do not show the games. NBC will show a weekly preseason game. This is the primary source of revenue for the NFL- TV deals.

Then there's the issue of protecting the leagues most marketable commodity, it's players. Every year we see a few major stars (this year it was Jordy Nelson) go down with a season ending injury. This hurts the league. This is why QBs can basically no longer be hit, and now it's trickled down to WRs in most situations too.

The bottom line is money, granted. But smart businessmen (like the NFL) understand that constantly adapting is key to survival. The lack of adaptation is what has hurt MLB's and NBA's market shares in the last two decades.

yeah Giants too. And man what a sh***y way to lose. Had a rough night of trying to sleep after that one. I hate night games because I get all riled up and have a hard time sleeping afterwards. Especially after a really close game. Give me a blowout either way, my heart cant take the close ones!
