I ride. I had my own horse for a while, but I don't right now. I'm taking the winter off and returning to riding with my trainer in the spring. I'm hoping for low jumpers, but we'll see.

Now, almost 20 years later, I'm finally going to ride again. My wife and I are going to a dude ranch for a couple days.
Does anyone here ride? I wish I could afford to buy and stable a horse, but that will probably never happen. Sort of like my dream of owning a motorcycle.
Have you considered half-leasing a horse at a nearby stable?
Ya, I have. It's tempting, but still a little expensive for me. And also, it goes by the month, which, being a full-time working guy, translates to simply 4 weekends. I just can't get out there during the workweek.

I used to ride a lot growing up,too.My cousin had horses on the ranch where she lived and she taught us how.I remember how one time my sister and her were on a horse together (bad idea,no helmets of course!) and I was on another,and their horse got spooked and bucked them,neither were hurt which was a miracle! I also took riding lessons when I lived in England,so I learned both styles,English and Western. 
I remember riding in Montana and on Maui,and I really like trail riding in forests/woods.You definitely have to be secure and strong,let the horse know you are in charge or else they'll try to play around and misbehave.
I don't get the chance to ride often,it's more like once every year or every other year,but when I do I start posting like crazy and my legs are sore for days afterwards! I love it though!

I learned how to do barrel races -- running the horse around 3 barrels which were set about 30 feet apart as fast as you can! It was a real rush to lean really far to one side and hope the horse would "follow my lean" in order to get him to turn in tight circles around the barrels.

Yeah, My quarter horse and I did barrels for fun sometimes, and my paint had done barrels before I brought him up from SC.
Those horses sure can turn quick, huh. Once I tried to really let my QH run the pattern all out...scared the you-know-what out of me. That horse could run!
You've got guts going out there and trying that after not riding for so long. I've only been away for a few months and I'm not sure I would try that. Pretty cool. 
I'll have to post pics after I get back riding, too.
