Just registered for my second marathon, the Newfoundland Provinicial Marathon, on September 22! Hoping to qualify for Boston there, especially in light of the recent bombings... need a 3:05:00 to do it. PR currently is a 3:32 from Houston, but I ran that race incredibly stupid... first 14 miles in 1:29 (6:23/mi pace lol), last 12 in 2:09 lololololololollololl. Maaaaaaaaaaaaybe I'll go out a bit slower this time hahahah

Awesome.

I'm thinking about entering a half marathon this June.

Nice. I've never done one, and didn't think I ever would.. but maybe. I took up running since a friend of mine is a runner, and have run more and more ever since I did the Tough Mudder in Whistler last Summer.

The Monday of the Boston bombings, I went out for an early evening run before dinner after a light snack. I had run 15km (longest ever) the previous Monday, and 10km that Tuesday. On the fly, I decided to see if I could run a half marathon and break my distance record. When I got close to that, I figured I'd keep going. Sure, I took some breaks to stretch etc, and wasn't very fast AT ALL (working on improving that over the coming weeks/months.) and I took a break to have a couple of glasses of water from a kind hillbilly hippy guy who was out covering his bbq, and a meal break at my best friend's place after I texted his wife to make me some fuel so I could make it home  BUT I did manage to cover somewhere North of 32Km (according to a post run analysis via google maps) by the time I got home late that night. That run was for Boston. 8)

10Km shy of completing a marathon with absolutely zero training, preparation or planning! :P Mind you, it did take me several hours AND I took breaks.. but since Boston had me wondering if I could run a marathon if I trained for a year, and then wondering if I could run one right now even if I didn't train.. I made that run & found out that Yep, if I train I could run one, and that even without I managed to cover a lot more ground than I thought I might be able to. It's always a pleasant surprise to be able to do something bigger, better, faster than you ever believed you could - as it challenges my beliefs and paradigms and makes me wonder what other things I'm wrong about.. what other things I can do bigger, better, faster etc than I think I can. It's a running theme (no pun intended) that I don't give myself nearly enough credit, and I'm sure it is with many of us, so I figured I'd share that bit as some inspiration for anyone else out there stuck in any sort of mental rut that's limiting them.

I've done 1 and only plan on doing 1 more and that's the Marine Corps marathon. Mostly to see DC and for the cool looking medal :P

NICE goldfish! Yeah, you could definitely run one if you trained... probably pretty quick, too. If you can do 32k without training, I would think you could drop 42k within a month if you ran every day. How fast is a different issue... I think when I start training for this one, I'm gonna throw a lot more mile repeat and 800 repeat types of workouts in. Also, more than one long run a week. Running 16-22 miles at a nice slow 7:45-8:00 pace on Sundays is all well and good, but it doesn't really mean much if you're under 10 miles and over 6:30 pace the other 6 days of the week. Yeah... my long runs definitely need to be slower and more frequent and my fast days need to be faster...

Good luck! I'm running my first marathon in October and am really, really nervous. Running a half marathon tomorrow...
