Is anyone here into hunting?

I've grown up around hunters for most of my life, and eaten lots of delicious wild game, and as a result I'm thinking of getting into hunting as a hobby. I'm planning on going for my Metis card soon (since I have some First Nations ancestry ), and though I'm mainly signing up for the educational benefits, it'll also be nice to have the extended harvesting rights.

I've already gone hunting for grouse, and I know how to safely operate a gun, so I can't wait to become a full-fledged hunter. Of course, in this province you technically have to go for hunter's training and take a firearms course, but many people here start learning how to hunt when they're kids. I'll go for the courses and stuff anyhow, just because it's what you're supposed to do.

Is anyone else here interested in hunting, or trapping, or even just eating wild game?

I've grown up around hunters and did a little when I was a kid, but never really got the sport of killing. I mean, I could do it if it were a necessity to survive, but as long as I can get meat at the grocery, I'd rather not have to get soaked in blood hacking up a carcass (not to mention I don't get the appeal of being out in the frigid winter before dawn, traipsing through the wet forest, or sitting in a tree for hours). I do enjoy shooting sports, but I'd rather confine it to blasting cans and cabbages. You can sleep in and still bag a paper target.

Depends what sort of hunting you mean. I think it means something quite different here and I think it is disgusting. have protested a few times.

Around here, hunting is huge. When I lived in Bham, I knew people who would go hunting occasionally, but down here most guys and some girls, go hunting all the time. Weddings have been planned around hunting season and football games. Kids start hunting about 10 or so, with their Dads. Their Dads teach them how to shoot and safety and there aren't classes you take. I don't think I know offhand where any gun classes would be down here. In Bham there are some though the police dept and through some gun stores, but down here most people are expected to learn that early on.

I don't like game. I just don't. I don't know why either, it's just weird to me. It's like it's "not real meat" or something.

I've found that skinning and butchering moose and deer aren't actually as bad as they sound. The smell and the blood are a bit off-putting at first, but once you get used to it, it's not a big deal. Also, given the chance, I would take wild meat over almost any meat from the grocery store, as factory farmed animals are raised in less-humane conditions, and they are often pumped full of hormones and other crap. Animals raised on normal farms are typically treated better, but it's often hard to tell if the meat you're getting comes from one of those or a factory farm. Game animals, on the other hand pretty much come straight from their natural habitats to your plate, with the only real intervention being a bullet through the vitals.



While I'm a fan of hunting animals in their natural habitats for food, canned hunting and trophy hunting disgust me. I mean, canned hunts pretty much condemn a wild animal to death without giving them a fair chance to run away, and trophy hunting is downright wasteful. I mean, it's one thing if you bag a nice deer, butcher it, and put its head on your wall since it happens to have a nice rack, but its wasteful to keep only the head and discard the meat. What's even worse is if you kill it and leave the corpse to rot, like one person living a few hours from here recently did. People like him give respectable hunters a bad name.

I like giving a wild animal a fair chance to live out their full natural lifespan with minimal interference.

The very existence of our species kind of doesn't allow for that. Let's face it, when you look at all of the different stupid ways humans have destroyed the planet, hunting for subsistence seems fairly low on the ladder. Not to say humans haven't hunted other species into extinction before, but in those cases I would argue that hunters acted irresponsibly.

Like I mentioned before, I like the idea of hunting for food, I do NOT like the idea of hunting purely for sport.

I live in the countryside here in the UK so 'the hunt' can be quite a big thing. It was finally banned a few years ago yet they now still carry on but claim the dogs only hunt the scent of an already dead fox, yet they still end up with multiple dead foxes.

Boxing day is the main day for the hunt so only 2 days to go until my village is filled with toffs driving range rovers with kids called Rupert and Tarquin who have come to watch the 'jolly good show'. I have made my feelings clear to them in the past and may do so again this year.

They carry that out pretty much just as a bloodsport, right? Like I've mentioned earlier on, that kind of hunting is the kind that I don't agree with.

Are you going to mount the trophies?

I hunt sometimes but it is usually just varmints (squirrel, possum, groundhog, or fox ). Occasionally I will hunt deer or turkey using a rifle or traditional recurve bow.

Strive to survive causing least suffering possible.

I think I'd enjoy it, but I have no use for meat/skin/trophies and no need to kill pests.

My parents aren't into it, heck my dad feeds the deer and he couldn't imagine shooting Bamby. Part of me wants to because it bothers me on some levels that I eat burgers, chicken sandwiches, bacon, etc. but I've never done the dirty work myself.

Probably best to stay vegan/vegetarian in that case, otherwise it's just passing the moral repehension on to the blue collar guy or gal who slaughters the steer for your steak, the chicken for your sandwich, or the ham for your Christmas or New Years celebration.

It probably would be a good idea for everyone who eats meat to personally kill and process at least one animal. I grew up around it , so it doesn't bother me but a city boy/girl who orders a big mac might view the experience as a real eye opener. Maybe it would even help with obesity.

Do you support canned hunting ? I presume you all do as does the NRA.

To think the pigeons saved countless lives up to www2 and this is how we repay these wonderful?l animals how sick must one be to breed pigeons just so white men can shoot them out of boxes ? Their often a hopeless shot (and I thought hunters murdered animals humanely ) so what do theses humans do? kick them about or find a nearest tree to belt them against And it seems it's a family day out with little John Henry tagging along for the fun day out.

I think we should get Mike Tyson on to these cowards as he once said with the trademark lisp "I love these birds theirs one thing you simply can't get from humans and that's loyalty" evidently .
