So I play rugby...

I definitely injured my left ankle somehow on Saturday. I can put a little bit of weight on it, but bending my ankle brings intense and sharp pain. Even when I'm not moving it, the pain is still very intense and my ankle throbs. I have to adjust it's position every few minutes or so or it starts throbbing really bad.

It's not really bothering me too much, but it makes walking around and climbing stairs somewhat difficult and painful. I've been icing and elevating it when I get the chance, but I haven't seen any change. The only real change is that it turned blue on Saturday and went back to it's normal color on Sunday.

I noticed something was really wrong with it yesterday while I was at practice. Normally my team and I do two quick warm-up laps around the track and do some basic stretches, including a bunch of ankle ones. Once I got to those was when the pain became the most intense.

If anyone has some suggestions, please tell me. I've never had an injury like this before and I'm not really sure what to do. :?

First thing I'd recommend is that you stop doing anything that puts stress on the ankle. I'm no expert, but it could be a ligament sprain. What kind of motions exactly cause pain? Where in the ankle do you feel the pain? Is the painful spot hot or swollen?

It hurts mainly around the joint area. At first it only hurt when I bent it, but now it hurts all the time. The area is slightly swollen and really warm.

My parents pulled me out of rugby yesterday and they refuse to let me play again. Not that I blame them.

The swelling and warmth indicates to me that you probably tore something. My advice would be to get a doctor to look at it. If I had to guess, I'd say it's a ligament sprain. What part of the joint? Back of the joint? Front?

Both sides, actually. I'll try.
