In general, preservatives have a bad effect on me. When I injest them from food, I get a red face, red angry lumps on my arms and legs, once 1000s of tiny blisters on my hands. It affects my behaviour too. It makes my mind foggy and makes me feel emotionally and physically numb, although the itchiness from the skin annoys me.

Can preservatives absorbed through the skin do the same thing? I swear for the last 2-3 weeks while I've been having skin reactions, I have been going *insane*. Maybe it's just been caused by the lack of being able to get out the house because of my bad skin, but damn, I'm worried about myself. I haven't felt so crazy since I was 17. Not that I've ever taken meds or done anything drastic. I just feel paranoid and crazy.

I remember being told that by going on the gluten-free diet, you should avoid gluten in cosmetics as well in case they have an effect on you.

Could these skincreams (I'm sure it's the preservatives) that are causing me dermatitis possibly be affecting my mind as well? Something is affecting my mind. Maybe I've suddenly developed a food intolerence as well.

I'm on a third new skincream and I'm having reactions to that as well. A nice red face, slight puffiness this time. Itching all over too. Sigh. I've just ordered 100% shea butter, apparently that doesn't have any preservatives in it. Let's pray it's worth the £15.

Ive not known skin reactions to, but all my food ones make me foggy and dizzy and irritable and confused.

I find my skin reacts more when Im eating a problem food so I think you have an allergy food somewhere in your current diet.

maybe eat rice and add one thing at a time back into your diet.

I'll go out and buy some rice tomorrow. How long should I be on a diet of rice for?

I've been crying because I can't stand the feeling on my skin, and my face is red. I can constantly feel it. It's so horrible. I have to scrape off all the dead skin and I keep gasping when I put the cream on as it makes it sting. Yet my skin would be worse without the cream. I keep scratching and squeezing my skin to get rid of the soreness. I feel like sh*t. I'm going to go out tommorrow and try and find some 100% shea butter or something similar, I don't think I can wait for the delivery.

I'm depressed. I've been in bed for most of today just wishing the whole thing to end. Most of the last week or so has been that way. It is really getting to me.

As for trying to get bones for bone broth - my local butcher had a go at me saying he would not give me any bones unless I bought meat as well. He was trying to make a point of it, and I said, "I'm perfectly willing to pay for the bones".
Man: "We don't do it like that. Rant rant. We just don't do it like that."
Me: "OK. Right." and he just would not shut up. While he was ranting at me I looked at the other guy there (who gave me the free chicken carcass the other day) and he didn't seem to know why he was being a dick to me either. I'm not going back. Honestly, what kind of customer service is that? I bought meat from them the other day for crying out loud! I've looked online to order bones and they all have minimum orders of like, £30. I don't have the room for all that meat. What am I going to do with it all?

I am getting so frustrated. I WILL find some bones, damn it! And I'm not waiting a week to get them.

I think if it is a food allergy you should notice the difference after just a day of just rice, add foods back in after 2 days I would say, give each food a couple of hours to see if it makes a reaction then try the next one.

Have you tried the waitrose baby bottom butter, its olive oil and celendula and I find it really soothing

Have you tried putting plain vegetable oil on whilst wet from the shower, I find that good as its additive free.

Last night I tried using coconut oil and light olive oil, but they wouldn't sink in.

I have bought the Waitrose baby bottom moisturiser today, with three other preservative-free moisturisers. So, we'll see how they go. :)

Funnily enough, although I went out today with a red blotchy face, nobody seemed to notice.

This is interesting: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006mg7 ... /mi-update

All the skin creams I used have methyl preservatives in them, but not that specific one. Perhaps they've increased the concentration of the others.

Quote:
Studies indicate that methylparaben applied on the skin may react with UVB, leading to increased skin aging and DNA damage

Ewww. Remember that scare that parabens were possibly linked to breast cancer?

the oily creams or oil should be applied to wet skin to hold the water in, not to sink in themselves, or apply them on top of a more 'watery' cream as they seal it in for a longer last.

Im awful for it, I put on oil when wet then after 5 mins I cream my face hands feet and legs (with dermacare) then put greesy cream(zinc and caster oil or bottom butter) on top of the cream.

parabens are so annoying and in everything, even baby calpol!!

Ahh, got ya. I will do that next time.

They're even in Calpol?! 8O

Since I've quit using shampoo and use only water, and now I can't seem to use any skin cream that has anything bad in it...I wonder about deodorant. I wouldn't go without it - I wonder what alternative ones there are. I remember the crystals you could rub under the arm, but apparently they contained aluminium.

Oh yeh! I remember him bringing water in a glass bottle (I think) everywhere he went. And he wouldn't even touch the ink on food containers, or something because of their toxicity. I *think*. What happened to him?
