Is it bad to lose weight to fast, because I heard of people getting sick and stuff, or is because how how they lost their weight? I've just read something of someone loosing 40 pounds in 40 days.

I honestly think there is no such thing as loosing weight too fast if you are TRYING to lose weight.

Obesity is maintained by diet and lifestyle. I've seen people drop over 20 pounds in short time by just abstaining from something calorie-packed in their daily diet.

The kind of rapid weight loss you should be concerned with is when you change nothing but it starts dropping off, that's a big warning sign.

If you are STARVING yourself to loose weight, that's bad too.

If you are dropping a pound a day and are just eating a 1,200 calorie per day diet and walking an hour on a treadmill, don't worry about it. So long as you are getting the NUTRITION you need to be healthy and are exercising, rapid weight loss is a blessing.

You will find that as you near that "natural" body weight that YOUR body wants to maintain, loosing weight becomes harder. Excess weight comes off fairly fast, those last 10-15 pounds are harder because they fall near the range of that "buffer" your body tries to keep around in case it is needed.

well .... it's question of how you decide to lose weight.
if you're losing weight fast and are eating a low- to no-fat diet to do so, there's a high risk of developing gall stones. (not starving. just no fat- that's a difference)
those are made of bile. bile is what the digestive system uses to dissolve fat.
It's stored in a bladder. If the bile doesn't get released at all, parts of it solidify and then they can cause pain, get stuck in the duct that leads into the inestine and cause incredible pain and possibly casue inflammation, leading to even more pain and all sorts of stuff.

There's also drugs that make the body burn up stored energy constantly, which can kill you, while the body goes on still heating up, leading to oddly warm corpses.
so... it depends on how you do it.

I'm trying to burn excess body fat from the Zyprexa, which has made me borderline obese. (In June, I weighed about 165, but now I weigh like 208. I'm looking to get back down into the 160s)

My solution is sprint intervals. I sprint up to my apartment's trash can and then sprint back to my car. Each way takes about 10 seconds. I rest for about 20 seconds or so, and when I'm back at my car I drink some water. I do 5 sets of these 2 sprints. I'm planning on doing this for at least a week and see my progress.

I wear knee braces to prevent knee pain; otherwise, I think it's safe, as my cardiologist has told me repeatedly she wants me to do vigorous exercise.

For diet, I will try to keep it balanced. Once or twice a week, I will eat tilapia prepared with butter with olive oil, asparagus, and onions. I still eat meat in my diet, but make sure to get lots of veggies, too, so I think I'm safe on the fat.

yes, you should be on the safe side.
but sprint intervals are an odd way. For your knees, your cardio and all you should be thinking about cycling half an hour to an hour a day. No weight strain on the knees, good stamina.
worked for me.

I prefer the sprint intervals.

Increasing your physical activity helps a lot too.

I weighed about 238 when I started working in June, fast forward to now and I weigh 196. I think if I cut out some of the processed foods I eat I'd drop a lot more, but I love me some food.

Just keep an eye on how quickly you're losing it, and don't make yourself sick.

actual fat burning takes a while to get going, like half an hour of moderate exercise. Until then, your body is using the sugar in its muscles. When you eat after sport, you're refuelling your muscles.
In other words: your short sprint intervals will work on emptying the sugar-buffer in your muscles (which is a great concept for outrunning predators), but not immediately touch the fat storage (which is a great concept for enduring long periods without food).
fat burning also requires you to stay within the aerobic area, meaning: it needs oxygen, actually, in your cells. Which in turn means, your heart needs to be able to keep up with the demand in oxygen rich blood. and that means your pulse shouldn't go up too far. 130 max. higher than that, and the process of turning fat into sugar for your muscles won't work properly, and the muscles use proteines instead.

any exercise is better than nothing, but the way you exercise greatly determines the results, be it muscle growth, stamina or weight loss.
if you're going for weight loss, there's a bunch of rules you can stick to to speed up the process. hence my recommendation of an hour of cycling a day- running's good as well, but not ideal for when you're still overweight, you know, with the knees and ankles and all.

What do you recommend for carrying water? Should I hang it in a plastic bag off of one of the handlebars? If I'm going for an hour, I am going to need water.

Well, I biked for 23 minutes. I was reaching my limit.

Will still do some sprint intervals this evening, however.

There is indeed such a thing as losing weight too fast! The higher your body fat, the faster you'll be able to lose. If you're obese, losing 10 - 20 pounds a month is reasonable. If you're leaner, an ideal target is 4 - 8 pounds a month.

There is no one caloric intake that is suitable for everyone! Your body's goal is to operate in the most efficient manner possible. If you drop your calories too low: your body is going to get rid of some muscle mass, because muscle tissue is resource expensive. Losing muscle; in turn, decreases the amount of calories you'll burn in a day.

If you're eating at a caloric deficit, don't go more than 20% below maintenance. As far as how to figure out what your maintenance is: a fitness professional can help you, or you can find a number of methods to get a ballpark estimate on a forum like bodybuilding.com or elitefitness.com.

High intensity intervals are great for fat loss, actually! They're a way to get more done, in a shorter time window. They'll also help you hold on to and build more muscle tissue, creating a more efficient metabolism. If your knees can handle interval running, go for it!! You can also do intervals on a bike.

As a strength athlete, I stick with short bursts of high intensity work. My conditioning typically revolves around intervals of light kettlebell swings, burpees, pushups, light and fast deadlifts, or battling ropes. I pick two of them and build a conditioning circuit. For example: 15 seconds of 135 pound deadlifts, 15 seconds of burpees, 45 seconds of rest, repeat for five rounds.

If you think that HIIT doesn't compare to SSLI (Steady State Low Intensity) for fat burning: take a look at the physiques of some Powerlifters and Weightlifters. Most strength athletes do everything at a higher intensity!! Most of us also eat more than you can wrap your head around :D

It is, but only to the chubby chaser. That weight (unless she's 6'5") is too much, it's obesity and it puts her in the risk zone for future diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.

And a just merely overweight person can lose weight too fast. Losing weight too fast makes the body think it's going into starvation, thus slowing down metabolism and making future weight loss harder. Plus the body starts to consume some of it's own muscle and organ mass, also making fast weight loss a bit treacherous. As such, slow weight loss is the key, along with gradual dietary changes (no fad diets) and increasing of exercise.

The only people who are able to safely lose weight fast are the morbidly obese that are supervised by a doctor. Since they are eating way less then the high calories they are used to, they will naturally drop weight fast, plus the doctor is monitoring the patient and ensuring that nothing goes wrong.
