Anyone experienced sleepwalking or waking in a combative/vigilant way? It happens to me from time to time especially when I'm under stress. I'm not sure if it all stress or more a kind of stress. Or any kind of disturbed sleep.

Stuff that can happen is suddenly sit bolt upright in my bed. Also as I can be in a state between wake an sleep, thing appear to jump out, e.g, outlines, etc. I might shout out and put might hand out, even strike out.

I have found myself waking on the end of my bed. I must have got there first then I suddenly stand up.

The worst incidents were where I wrote off too clothes horses (separate incidents). I thought it was an intruder. On one level it is kind of funny that I have it in for clothes horses, but I could have been seriously hurt, and I don't want to think about if anyone was there. These clothes horse have horizontal metal poles about 6mm diameter and lattice sides. I beat these clothes horses to pieces, and wake up with two mangled bars in each hand. I the first time I fell off the bed onto it, so it is probably not surprising I was vigilant at that point

It is has only happened twice, and the only other thing equivalent is where I hit my fist against the door frame really hard, as what looked like a head came out from it (this is to do with the sleep state rather than supernatural).

99% of the time I don't have these issue, but every now it might happen. Nowadays at most will say 'hey!' and maybe swipe at the air.

Weird huh. :?

I never experienced sleepwalking that I know of but I have had night terrors & sleep paralysis. I had those problems more when I adjusting the med changes, suffering from a depression, frustrated about things, & really lonely & didn't like the idea of sleeping alone.

I've never become violent.
I'm more likely to load the washing machine or start sweeping the floor.
I'm a neat freak sleepwalker.

Are you by any chance taking any medicines which work by interacting with the brain? Such as SSRIs, SNRIs, etc?

Stillnox was a great drug for sleepwalking.
My doctor used to give them out for free.
It was a scary drug, actually.
It provoked bizarre behaviours.

I sleepwalked once. My family was staying in a motel. I got up in the middle of the night and started walking. My mom asked what I was doing. I said I was looking for some paper to write a note. I didn't say what it was for. My mom asked, "Are you awake?" and I looked unsure. My mom encouraged me to go back to bed, and I did. I have no memory of this; my mom had to tell me the next day.

I woke up in the bathtub having a bath once, lol. I was sober. Apparently I got out of bed and said to my signifigant other (my ex!), "I'm gonna go have a bath!" I got up, went and had a bath, and woke up in the tub. I went back to the bedroom and said to her, "I can't believe I just had a bath? I don't even remember going to the tub!"

Not weird just your experience.

I have trouble with waking up to loud noises and bright lights.
(And some smells... and windows open)

My wonderful wife is retired .. Watches TV late and yes likes fresh window open air.

Can you say or spell compromise ?
Sometimes that's not easy ...

Yeah from time to time. No sleep walking but night terrors have happened before. Sometimes when I'm on the edge of consciousness I'll feel like I'm falling and my head will slam into my pillow and I'll jolt. Apparently I'm prone to talking in my sleep so at some point I'll have to record myself.

I have had bad experience with med including seizures. However I'm not taking anything right now or for a while.

I think stress is the thing that stands out, possibly sleep deprivation,

I know someone who, who was in a flat share, got a saucepan and started taking a peeing in it. His then girlfriend found him and woke him up and got him back to bed. She then disinfected the pan. I don't think they told the person whose pan it was.

I have not sleepwalked, if I have then I cannot remember. However, there has been times where I have woken up, either due to stress, worrying or having weird dreams. I then am unable to get back to sleep. I have been taking sleeping tablets, but I am not sure about my sleeping problems though....

Sleep effects I have had:
Sleep paralysis (doesn't scare em because I know it will pass)
Hypnagogic jerk
Exploding head syndrome (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exploding_head_syndrome). I have had explosions, gun shot, symbols, popped balloons, buzzer. All hyper realistic, it is astounding that the bran can recreate these so accurately. Generally it on waking up (hypnopompic).

I used to be very hypertensive on waking up. Adrenaline would shoot up my limbs, I would be drowning in a sea of bile, and very fatigued. Change of diet, CBT, Nuerofeedback, blue light alarm clock have helped.

Drug related things:
Zings but not related to sleep.

I punched one ex in the jaw on night, and landed a double palm strike on his chest another night, and knocked him into the wall both times for getting up to use the bathroom.

He had slow reflexes from Ambien, though. I've swung or struck out at four other people who were accidentally or intentionally waking me up out of mortal danger and they dodged or blocked me just fine.

I have horrific dreams on a frequent basis. Graphically violent. I've had a moment of one stuck in my mind for a few days now of this woman literally dripping with gore - but not just the image. I smelled her. Strong enough that the smell went into my mouth.
I wake up a day or two most weeks with sore muscles from clenching in a defensive posture of some kind.

So now I tell people who are around me sleeping to wake me up at arm's length, especially if I look tensely or at all unhappy. Husband does not listen and is large enough to bear hug me into submission... I'll feel bad the day I land something on him, but he knows what he's risking.

I have wondered if my martial arts interest influences these dreams, but I doubt it.

They aren't that logical and I lack technique and experience when asleep, my temperament is totally different.

has anyone had any EEG studies when asleep, capturing terrors, sleep walking, etc?

I heard that micro seizures can cause this. There was a guy that kept jumping out of a window.
