I haven't been diagnosed as AS or Autistic but I have a lot of difficulty managing my anxiety levels on a day to day basis. Is there anything over the counter that helps to lower anxiety or at least make it more manageable? My anxiety has gotten to the point where I don't trust myself often and as a result I basically become a hermit. I don't want this to get worse because I'm beginning to see myself as a nut job who can't handle simple everyday life situations. I just want to live my life effectively and actually be able to enjoy it while I can.

I'm an older Aspie with a clinical diagnosis of Bipolar II. I spent much of my youth as a loner due to social anxiety. Prescription meds were of value in helping me out of my "shell" during a critical period of my life.

In regards your original question: In my experience, the answer is 'no'. I would be leery of over the counter product claims because most of the herbal or patent stuff is a waste of time and money.

If you feel that anxiety is taking a toll on your life, I would suggest a formal psychiatric evaluation. Your anxiety may (or may not) be one facet of a larger problem. In either case, if it is causing you to avoid life, please seek treatment.

Hope this helps.
