Yeah it can be a minefield can't it

I suppose it shows true grit to stick with it and not hide yourself away though Jakki. Good on you

I think it's sad but not discouraging that there are vultures out there waiting to pick the bones of people when they're at their most vulnerable

I think it's even sadder that these vultures rely on people feeling too ashamed about being targeted to want to talk about it

Emetophobia is eating or drinking a product quickly on its use-by date because you know that as soon as midnight comes it will become poison

Emetophobia is avoiding any amount of alcohol in case your body decides it doesn't want it, or sipping it really slowly because of worrying that if you drink it too fast you'll be sick

Emetophobia is panicking about traveling long distances, and becoming too prepared for if the worst was to ever happen

Emetophobia is causing your immune system to go into overdrive whenever you're going on vacation because you're panicking too much about contracting a bug or a flu before or while you're away

Emetophobia is avoiding working anywhere that involves people with weaker immune systems

Emetophobia is avoiding cruises because of them being renowned for outbreaks of notorious

Emetophobia is feeling the most on edge around Christmas time because that seems to be the time norovirus people get norovirus the most, even though you can get it at any time of the year

Emetophobia is being triggered by the word "sick" or "vomit" used in contexts that mean you've just become exposed to it or will become exposed to it

Emetophobia is being on edge around toddlers in case they'll suddenly start throwing up randomly (as they sometimes do)

Emetophobia is filling with dread when you choke on something because you think you're going to gag and that is frightening for you.

I've tried therapy but that didn't really help much, although it was good to talk about it to someone in detail without them going "eww, too much information!" Also therapy included homework and I had a hard time with that, plus I kept forgetting to fill out the weekly health assessment forms and getting to the online meetings on time. I would have told the therapist I have ADHD and find these demands difficult but I didn't want the therapy sessions to be centered around ADHD, as I know that my Emetophobia is an isolated thing from the AS or ADHD. My Emetophobia is both rational and irrational.

What makes it irrational

I can see why it is rational btw

Emetophobia is usually described as irrational, which is why therapy is always recommended for us. But for me it's rational as well because being sick feels like a threat. I have R-CPD, where I can't burp (or only burp very rarely, which doesn't sound like a human burp, more like what a cat sounds like when they burp). So you can imagine how physically difficult it is for me to vomit if I can't even get air out that way. It takes longer for me to vomit, hours of anticipation, and lots of violent wretching and gagging before anything happens. It's frightening and therapy isn't really the answer to this. Surgery or botox treatment is probably the answer, but to be honest, I don't want that either, as I don't particularly want to become a burper. Yes, I have the 19th century attitude about burping (and farting) where I am private about it for reasons like pride and shame, no matter how natural these bodily functions are. Plus any treatment for R-CPD is expensive and not on the NHS.

I'm not an expert but it sounds rational enough to me

Sounds to me as if you have a physical condition that's causing you mental health problems

I felt under attack
I felt my life was under threat
I reacted
I didn't recover from the fight

I felt under attack
I felt my life was under threat
I reacted
I'm struggling to recover

I know it will happen again
I will have to fight for my life
I'm always ready to react
This is ptsd

This is my life, every day of my life
And sometimes I say and do things that ripple out and offend innocent people
That's because it's a messy business
I'm sorry for that but I cannot be sorry for putting my life in front of a few people's feelings
Ever

I wonder if people are more stressed out these days than 20 years ago

Is it an ADHD trait to wish your time away each day at work, feeling bored, unmotivated and willing for the end of your shift to hurry up?

It might be, it seems like a pretty normal trait to me. :P

It's why I need to be in a more stimulating job, like in a preschool. But I can't do that, because of my Emetophobia. Children carry germs like sewer rats, and yes, adults can and do catch it too. My 17-month-old niece has had a run of colds and one sickness bug since starting nursery back in September, and my sister and her partner has caught it at least once, and my aunt has caught it multiple times, as she goes there to babysit a lot, and ordinarily my aunt is pretty healthy and isn't usually renowned for catching viruses.

I taught kids online for a while. It was great fun, and definitely very stimulating.

I said to a friend who was a parent: "Erm, is it normal for them to be swinging off the curtains by the time you're done?"

Got an A+ for my animal noises, which I've been proud of ever since.
