Yep, OCD is a lot more than just anxiety, sadly.

It was pretty great :D . I don't think I had ever been to a pool party before yesterday either!

Yeah, my friend never seems to be bothered by anything. She seems like she completely believes it. My mom thinks I'm wrong, and she isn't a schizophrenic, but when you are around this person you just get that "vibe" that something is a little bit off. I got so scared last year, but I decided to still be friends since she can be fun to play with (when she isn't talking about some paranoid thought).

Wow! I honestly have never seen anything like that before :D . It looks good!

I promise I will try not to get into an argument- I more meant that people were going to definitely disagree with my view on schizophrenia and insight. :D

Just a suggestion but you may be just over analysing your friend a little too much and what you see as bizarre could be just a warped sense of humour. Maybe there is something 'a little bit off' with your friend but that could be a multitude of things , as long as you find her fun to play with who cares what's going on in her mind , get a grip of your mind first  .

blancmange is very tasty as far as I can remember but it's been decades since I've last tasted it , my GF just said it was disgusting which tells me I would of loved it ( we seem to have polar opposite taste buds  ).

You can always agree to disagree if someones views are not the same as yours.

You're right StampySquiddyFan about the correct usage of the term 'psychosis'. Excuse my mistake my brain is a mush these days. I'm still behind my statement that you can hallucinate knowing that you're hallucinating though.

The word arguement alone scares the life out of me.

As far as I know, schizo-obsessive disorder is more about obsessive compulsive symptoms co-occuring with a psychotic disorder. So obsessive compulsive symptoms are in a way caused by schizophrenia. My situation is the other way around. As a result I don't need antipsychotics to make the hallucinations go away but antidepressants. I use a very tiny dose of risperidone irregularly for autistic irritability but it's only a current addition to my prescription.

Yep! Totally :D . I hallucinated once when I was in extreme heat for hours, and I knew right away that it was a hallucination.

Maybe it is obsessive-schizo disorder  ! It seems like the hallucinations are caused by OCD definitely, though I'm not sure why that could be. Arguments are terrible. Let's all just get along :D .

Yep! That could easily be what is going on. You sound like my mom  ! I should really get a grip on my own mind- can you teach me how  ? Blancmange seems very tasty!

I'll agree to disagree :D . This is a happy thread (except when I'm ruining everyone's day by complaining about all my paranoid thoughts  ).

Actually the computer isn’t great with quotes. It’ll say “SaveFerris wrote” but not indicate the end of the quote. It’s only a minor inconvenience though, as I’m generally reading the thread and keeping track of who said what. If I’m writing a reply, then I have the code anyway. Otherwise, I’m using the keyboard or the touchscreen, using special keystrokes or gestures. If you’re really curious, you can look on YouTube for examples of blind people using screenreaders like Jaws for Windows, VoiceOver, Window-Eyes, or Narrator. Once familiar, and assuming they’re touch typists, blind people can be very fast and efficient much of the time. The computer reads text, and it also reads stuff that the programmers put into their code, like image descriptions.

I'm thinking about the computer in 2001: A Space Odyssey called Hal saying "I am afraid I can't do that Dave"

I get the reference because I read the book, though I haven’t seen the movie. The movie got mixed reviews. Alternate spellings rarely make much difference. Run-on sentences are the real problem.

Awesome! I think almost any Star Trek avatar would fit my username better than a Star Wars one. Feel free to PM me about it. Do you know how to crop and/or resize images? Because I don’t.

Haha yep, that's generally how it goes :D . I went to my friend's birthday party yesterday, and for a few hours, my depression went away. That didn't stop my paranoid/anxious thoughts, though! Analysis paralysis is a good term for us  .

I agree. It seems to come with the territory of obsessiveness. BTW before I joined WP, I hadn’t really thought much at all about how many autistic people would be able to understand my obsessiveness. I knew about special interests but I didn’t make the connection.

I’m glad you managed to still have a great time at the party though, Stampy. Parties can be a lot of fun and a great distraction. I also find that when people are happy around me, I feel happier and vise versa. If I’m alone, I’m often stuck with my own emotions and it’s harder to change them if I want to do that. Oh sure, I can get involved in something interesting or exciting, but I’ll still be aware of my background emotions, at least at first.

Sound like your mom :lmao: it's an age thing , it's a lot easier to rationalise things when you've spent a few decades on this planet.

I wish I could teach you how to get a grip on your mind , if I find out , you'll be the first to know

This is a support thread so I don't think you ruin anyone's day by complaining , it's not nice to know someone else is suffering and I think everyone here knows the feeling well , we all have good days and bad and I guess that's why you started the thread.

I didn't want to be mean but I had the urge to say, "Since you are so good at rationalizing things with your own anxiety  !" (Just joking, of course, I apologize if it is offensive). You have been here a lot longer than me, though, so I can definitely learn from you, especially when you sound like my mom  !

Exactly! I started this thread to be a distraction/support to people when they are struggling and a motivation/fun place when we are not. Good days are a lot better than bad days.......

Thank you by the way, DataB4! It's very nice to be able to get out of my head and interact with people sometimes, even if I'm not very good at it. It's always nice to be around other people, especially my friends :D .

Hi Stampy, Nice to read through some of the recent pages and see how things have been evolving. I just thought I'd respond to your last post (even though directed at DataB4) by saying, I think you are quite good at interacting with people. I especially admire your ability to speak so openly, about your difficult moments/days. I suppose it is something that stands out to me, and I quite admire, as I struggle with it most, if not all of the time. Somehow, I feel, by expressing my difficult moments, etcetera, would be imposing myself or an issue on someone, or put a damper on things, or what have you. Conversely, I don't see it is such, when you, or anyone else expresses how they are feeling, whether good or bad, or what may have occurred to bring you down. Quite the opposite, in fact. I find myself wishing I didn't struggle with expressing myself in such a way. I wonder if a person can change this sort of thing about themselves, or if it is an innate flaw, or trait, that just is what it is. Or, perhaps it takes practice.

OMG! I am so offended - NOT

Yes I have been here longer but you know so much more than me regarding this issue. I've had to invent my own coping mechanisms which sadly let me down a lot when I'm really stressed.
Just in case it is of any use to you , what I do when I have anxious thoughts is realise that it is just a 'best guess' from the more anxious part of my mind and is not a fact , my less anxious part of my mind will then come up with more balanced thinking , I will challenge the anxiety in a debating contest based on what it can and can't prove. This is quite easy to do on your own when your not stressed but I struggle when I'm stressed or in a social situation.

Thank you very much Britte! I have never been told I am good at interacting with people, so it means a lot to me. I worry about making others upset by my problems sometimes as well, but I end up posting anyway because people don't have to read it if they don't want to, and if they do, then maybe we could all help each other on our bad days. I really am blessed to have such amazing friends here and you are definitely one of them! I don't think what you have is a flaw, more just like a trait. I hope you are having a nice day  . I certainly am!

I knew I could count on ya! Ferrets don't get offended, they just worry about offending other people! :D

Your coping mechanism is great advice! I think I have my own version of that sometimes, but it seems like anxiety will never let go  . Anxiety in a social situation is the worst! I always look so unhappy, and then I get people asking me if I'm tired or something along those lines. I'm not tired, just fighting every though that I think  . I don't know how you have done this for so many years. I don't know a whole lot, but I try! :D

Thank you so much, for considering me a friend. Likewise, as mentioned, I consider you to be a very good friend. Indeed, there is the generosity aspect involved with sharing openly, which is what makes me want to open up, more, about myself, particularly, if a situation I am contending with, might resonate with, or be of help to someone else. I've become aware, that if I am to start my own topic thread, which I have done twice, thus far (not including a music thread and an architecture game thread I had generated), it seems to be quite manageable for me, particularly if I am being asked questions, and I can answer with something of value to that person. I have a harder time asking for support for myself, even ending my posts with the fact that I am merely venting, and it isn't necessary to respond. Perhaps that is the issue I have with opening up about a hardship - for me it is equivalent to asking for something, which I have never been comfortable doing. Well, simply having this conversation is making me aware of something, so, thank you for your input you have given me. I find being of help to others, easier for me, and I like to do so, whenever/wherever I have the ability. On another note, simply spending time, here, has been extremely beneficial to me, and, on a few occasions has provoked some intense emotional experiences, as the result of the support that had been given to me, when I had some overwhelming anxiety crop up. Not to get mushy, however. Thank you, again, for your kind words and friendship! :flower: :cherry: :geek:

We are very much alike one another Britte. I imagine, though you are not quite as self loathing as I am.
