Anyway, I haven't been here in a while and I need advice.

I still don't know if I have AS, but for sure I have a mood disorder. My psych people blame everything wrong with me on the mood disorder. I asked today if I should be tested for other disorders and I was told no and in fact the diagnosis doesn't matter as long as I am being treated correctly. I said I really wanted to know why I had the childhood episodes I had, some sort of rage/meltdown that I still feel like having sometimes, very extreme and landed me in special ed when I was a kid.

Anyway, I feel like calling the local university to see if they could help because people confuse me. Nobody doubts I have intense special interests, but people differ in their opinion whether I have social handicap. I've heard everything ranging from a lady interrupting me during a bipolar support group who works with Aspies to tell me I was one, to another lady that works with AS kids who said I wasn't like that, and in fact I had more empathy than normal.

I've heard also people think I have ADHD and that was my childhood dx and it is a possibility also maybe.

Anyway, should I push my regular psychiatrist to do some tests, or should I go higher to like the university autism diagnosis clinic?

Also, name the disorders that could cause childhood meltdowns/rages, I want to study this more on my own.

Ahh. The good 'ol aspie spectrum. I see here on WP there's a long debate about the term you mentioned: empathy. I'm completely lacking in it (and sympathy, it seems); others believe empathy is just hooey and spectrumites do indeed feel it. Nevertheless, aspie kids are known for their meltdowns, but so are normal kids. A doctor or clinical psychologist engaged in these matters would know for sure.
