I feel like the answers to a lot of my questions about myself are locked up in my 6-7 year old mind. I am almost 28 and I have been through a rough emotional time trying to process things that happened to me at that age and younger.
Has anyone here tried Age Regression Therapy? It looks terribly unscientific, and that unsettles me, but as a clinician I know that there's a difference between something that's been definitely disproved, and something which probably hasn't been subjected to the rigid research that it perhaps deserves.
What are peoples' thoughts on Regression Therapy?

Way back in the 1970s and 1980s, I did different kinds of age regression therapies-- mostly primal therapy, but I also dabbled in rebirthing, and later on in "inner child" work and a regressive therapy sort of like primal therapy for sexual abuse survivors. I had some profound emotional experiences which I do think were of genuine long-term benefit, but there is so much in them that was ridiculous, counterproductive, potentially dangerous and even cultish. I believed I had relived things (specifically, "memories" of sexual abuse in infancy that I now think are total confabulations, and knew of people who had done regressions of different kinds and came to believe things that are completely bananas, such as satanic ritual abuse experiences, sperm-and-egg conception traumatic "memories", alien abductions, etc. I now believe that much of what I was desperately trying to do was find a root cause for my autistic traits and other genetic or fetal-development quirks that resulted in the difficulties I faced, beyond the more obvious cause of being raised in an emotionally violent family with a mentally ill mother.
I could go on and on about this, point to books, web links, etc. Age regression therapy is a very broad and vague term; what specifically are you thinking of?
