effectiveness of NCVD (dental appliance) for TS
So, I'm sure some of you have heard of the NCVD (NeuroCranio Vertical Distractor). It's a little dental appliance that supposedly "cures" tourettes syndrome by fixing the supposed miscommunication near the jaw between difference parts of the nervous syndrome. You put it in your mouth and only take it out when you eat or brush your teeth or whatever:

I personally had my local dentist (that my dad grew up with as a neighbor) to make me an NCVD based on the single study that was done on the appliance, and the pictures within it. I don't know if this version is perfect, because it doesn't "cure" my tourettes really, (it might be helping a little bit but I can't really tell). But maybe that's just because I got my dentist to make me a makeshift one instead of getting a real one from the people who invented the NCVD.
Does anybody here have anything to say about the NCVD?
I was told at the last UK conference that it doesn't have any obvious benefits. Specialists here are not prescribing the splints due to lack of evidence. Personally, I just hate having anything in my mouth so I wouldn't even try it if it was offered!
