Just curious how many others there are and if you think that they can cancel each other out in a limited number of areas (my theory).

I think the meltdowns are similar, and the trouble establishing bonds with others is magnified by having both. There are NT's with BPD who claim they cannot feel love or say "I love you" to anyone else. I would have to identify with this and say it's magnified by having AS.

But I think that having BPD + AS allows one to have a normal ability to understand others' emotional states (rather than the impaired ability of Asperger's or the heightened ability of BPD). Do you ever get told by professionals and friends: "Your social skills seem fine" but then you don't have any real friends?

I used to think "oh, Asperger's is terrible; my life sucks because of Ass Burgers!!" Now, I've come to realize that most of the bad things are a result of BPD while many of the good things about me may actually be from Asperger's. Not sure. But I actually have special talents and useful skills that have kept me employed or in school throughout all my dysfunction.

Are there others with both who feel this way?

How were you able to get a diagnosis of both BPD and AS? Sorry about before. I thought you could read the subject line. I feel like I'm both but not too sure.

Simple. The second evaluator decided that Asperger's was poppycock because I have a "theory of mind." Decided that the C-PTSD + BPD combo explained things better, even if I meet the criteria for Ass Burgers, which I do.

My theory is that I have both--and that Ass Burgers is actually an asset in my case. I wanted to hear from others to see how Ass Burgers and Borderline interact. I have no practical purpose. I'm just curious.

I've learned my "theory of mind" through various experiences. What do you feel like because of the BPD? It almost for me feels as though I'm verging on the sociopath border.

I don't think BPD makes you any better at interpreting social cues. From what I've heard, BPDs are no better or worse than NTs, but are more likely to overinterpret cues (eg one cue could mean angry or concentrating, they assume angry whereas an NT admits uncertainty).

Oh wow. What are the other criteria for BPD? I may actually have both. I think theory of mind could be learned.

If so, that's def. me!! But yeah's it's already settled.

Just curious on what aspie + BPD usually looks like. It could be someone got diagnosed with BPD prior to Asperger's, which is common. Or, it could be the rarer case like mine where the second opinion thought Asperger's was incorrect.

I also think a lot of people on this site have a theory of mind. I don't think it should rule out Ass Burgers. But whatever.

Are my questions pointless to ask or stupid in content?

This is interesting. I met someone recently who I think has BPD because of the way she acted (was very intense then totally blanked me, then started talking to me again amongst other things) and she's definitely not the first person I've met and made 'friends' with who's acted like that or had diagnosed BPD. For some reason, a high proportion of the people I end up 'friends' with (the friendships don't usually last) either have BPD or strong BPD traits and I'm not sure why. I don't know if I attract people with BPD or am attracted to them- maybe something to do with AS? Anyone else had this experience? I never know how to deal with it and usually end up feeling rubbish and like I've done something massively wrong but don't know why.

I am diagnosed with both AS and BPD.

I was diagnosed with AS first (by a psychiatrist with a special interest in ASDs), and BPD (by my new psychiatrist due to a reshuffle in the NHS) a year later.

The autism specialist who confirmed my AS diagnosis thought that BPD was a misdiagnosis because most of my BPD behaviours could be explained by my AS.

The psychotherapist who confirmed my BPD diagnosis thinks that AS is a misdiagnosis because most of my AS behaviours could be explained by BPD.

The key words here "most of" rather than "all"

My current psychiatrist believes I have both. They believe that my BPD stems directly from having grown up with an undiagnosed ASD and consequently my needs not being met by my parents (even though I know they did their best, I score extremely highly on emotional neglect scales).

How hard was it for you to get a diagnosis? It is really difficult for African Americans to get a diagnosis because they believe that we do not exist. By they I mean the community of mental health practitioners. It is really sad.

Indeed not. Not being autistic on the other hand does.

My 1st psych thought I had Aspergers but she wasn't qualified to make the diagnoses & she also diagnosed me with BPD along with other things. Every other psych I saw sense believed. I had Schizoid personality & PBD along with lots of other things instead of AS. I believe I do have Aspergers & the BPD symptoms I had were due to a sever psychotic depression that was brought on by issues related to my AS including the breakup with y 1st girlfriend who was the 1st person I felt a connection with. I had a mental breakdown & my personality became EMO. When my depression got better & I learned more about myself an Aspergers my BPD stuff got a lot better & I don't think I could get a BPD diagnoses now but I do still have some things; like being more sensitive, being very dependent on my partner, putting her 1st sometimes when it's bad for me. I really like discussing feelings with her & feel bad when she does.
