Dealing with triggers

By triggers I mean a situation, objects or the things people say that will make us have a meltdown or ignites one of our obsessive qualities (in a negative way). These things in the past have caused me to explode or become extremely miserable to the point of feeling suicidal (or course there was multiple event triggers that caused that lead up to this).
Only in the last two months am trying to cope better and breaking old habits and chains of behaviors that cause me to fall back into my old ways.
Please tell me how you deal with these things.
