I saw this test on the r/ADHDmemes subreddit and didn't see a thread about it here, so I thought I'd make one.

I don't have ADHD.
But I'll just take the test just for the heck of it.

This isn't a surprise for me.

So how close or accurate is this test compared to a pro?

I thought I was going to be off the scale by my answers but was just moderate.

Consistent with my DX as ADHD-I

A bit prone to "self reporting" and "self selection" errors.

I'm probably breaking a rule but looking at your chart and knowing you race, do you think impulsivity helps or hinders?

Probably both, because I tend to be aggressive about taking openings but I can be prone to getting myself into trouble by not thinking things through carefully.

With that said, I've also been interested in racing pretty much anything off and on most of my life so I've learned patience from seeing things go wrong by acting impatiently.

Perfectionist traits and a tendency towards ruminating can really check impulsive tendencies, but therein lies another concern - your mind can distract you badly over small mistakes or other stuff that's in the past so you've got to develop the skill to detach from that and just stay in the moment.

I believe it's more likely to be more of an issue when I try my hand at endurance racing for real (fingers crossed), but then again, I think being suited up, belted in and wearing all the protective gear might go a big way to maintaining focus. It's hard to not remember how serious what you're doing is when you've got all those reminders, and it's even more sensory input to keep me hyperfocused.

What I've done in real life has never really lasted long enough to reach the point where my focus starts to fade.

I honestly don't know how accurate it is. I thought the site said that it was based off of screening tools or something. My results were pretty on point though.

I have ADHD-Combined Type. I think my results were consistent with that, too.

This is a good observation. I also have a tendency to be relatively impulsive, though my habits of ruminating and striving for perfection keep that in check a lot of the time. Though all of that does go out the window in really stressful situations... lol

Definitely, fear of having to go though that cycle of rumination can provide some inhibition but if things are bad enough odds are so am I.

Wow, reading this brought back such good memories. My thought was impulsivity would allow you to see more opportunities than another racer and also in learning how to make the decision to take it or not as you said.

I’m kinda claustrophobic and when I strapped on the helmet, my focus was intense and enjoyable.

Same, there's something almost relieving about knowing you're in a situation that has a fairly limited number of things to focus on, the overall situation will involve a large amount of sensory input and those things are all that needs to be given attention for the next given period.

If that's what most of life was I wouldn't struggle, I'd thrive.
