I believe I've been around longer on dA than anyone else on these forums; I joined in late December 2003.

I've been on deviantart since I was fifteen, so a decade. I don't visit as often as I used to and I used to care more about things like making the front page or matching up to the more advanced artists on the site. These days I update my gallery now and then, watch a few people, and just check on it once or twice a week.

I think I joined around the same time as you. I don't have the same account I did a decade ago, mind you, but that's no matter.

DeviantART is fun. It's a good starting point for hobbyists who wants a wee bit of exposure. However, more serious artists will eventually want to branch out to other places that isn't viewed as a social networking place. Whatever. It's still a very lax site and you can always find a niche to have some fun with, and you have to be unlucky (or loud) to meet a jerk anyways.

Forgive my lack of knowledge, but precisely HOW does one get one's art on the "front page"?

If their art gets a certain amount of attention, it gets on the front page. Things like that aren't really a big deal to me, I just submit things because I enjoy it.

Thanks, now that I look at them closely, I see they all have a lot of "views". I have to learn to pay no attention to the maudlin and connect with good artists.

Yeah my DA is a bit weird, I create/ used to create bespoke sprite animations, sometimes for icon animations for DA or other forum softwares and signatures that allow that sort of thing.

The front page is where the most popular art gets displayed.

Yes, I see that now. They have other categories to sort through also. I enjoy putting my art up there, and I hope to find an illustrator to draw some characters for a story I'm writing.
