I did major in music during college. I played piano since the age of 6 but quit when I was 23. Basically a professor told another student that I didn't play piano well. I have had other teachers tell mom that I'm not that great of a pianist. Of course that's totally wrong to complain to a parent that their child is terrible at piano. Children learn differently from others. I did sing in choruses too most of my education. I'm not involved with anything music related now. I sing in church whenever my parents and I go. I may join a local chorus but it's a $300 membership fee plus an audition.

Thankyou audioeyes. :) I'm feeling better now... inconsistency is in my nature, but I'm playing more frequently now.

OCD complications can be overwhelming. Try to subside the negatives and only allow room for positive feelings, and hopefully the guitar playing will follow naturally. :)

Yes, played my first commercial by ear at 3, lots of lessons, perfect pitch, obsessed with certain composers and love to play blues.

I can't imagine what sort of person I'd be or even WHO I'd be without my talent/love of music.

I play bass in a ska/punk band, and I'm learning to play upright bass for a possible psychobilly side project....

Iv'e been a pedal steel guitar player for 30+ years now. So yes music is an oulet for me. I have played other instrments as well guitar, piano, organ, and sax. Music takes my mind off the moronic co-workers I have to deal with every day. :)

I'm not so much a musician as I am a mixer, sound designer and I do all the engineering for my girlfriend's music. I do play a little guitar and keyboards...enough to put bits and pieces together, but not full songs.

I've loved music my whole life and was always drawn in by the sounds. It only makes sense that my strongest asset is regarding sounds.

Yes. I've been playing since before I can remember. Piano, then drums, then bass, then guitar. I played in groups through the '70s into the '80s until my gear was stolen.

I'm in the odd position of having had so many years to practice that I'm better at it now than I ever was when I got paid for it (or starved for it), but I can't find anybody to play with. Midlife crisis musicians suck overall, and people who can really, really play and/or sing and/or write are all but impossible to find. At least for me, anyway. For the people I've met in my age bracket, their dreams have died, and they aren't going to go for it because they have a job and a family and grandkids and all that. So they have no reason to commit to anything bigger than a jam session.

Either that, or they want to wear powder blue tuxes with white frilly shirts and patent loafers, and play at the Legion or weddings or the Holiday Inn. :eew:

Yes, sort of. I'm neither schooled, nor professional. However, I'm skilled in improvisation and creating epic song structures. I play the guitar and I sing. I've sung in 3 bands. I would like to have more instruments, but it's expensive and I would like to master my main instrument first. I know how to play other instruments, but not as good as my main. It runs in the family, my grandfather was a jazz musician, mainly big band, he played saxophone, trombone, trumpet and clarinet. I've been thinking very much about going to the same school as my grandfather.

Concerning bands, I don't feel that good playing with others. I have a friend that I play with, but it's all in good fun. I like to have maximum control of the songs I create, I do not wish for interference of notes that do not belong in my structure! I don't like to interpret, but I love to compose.

Interpretation: Warm-up.
Composition: The challenge.

My entire life revolves around music. I'm the girl behind the dark-electro project Experiment Haywire and I also run a record label. Always looking for new people to collaborate with too.

My life also revolves around music. :D

I play guitar, and bass as well.

Bass has always interested me more, though. If I was in a band, I'd be the bassist. Not only are openings for bassists easier to come by, but it's always been my thing. The deeper sound, uh... I really don't know why, myself.

At the moment I'm attempting to save up for a Höfner 500/1 bass, sweet tone. I've been working on music for a solo album project, and I'd like to have that particular sound, though the bass in general is a favorite of mine.

I'm also gradually getting interested in techno, and I'm composing and putting some stuff together as a side project.

Instruments include:
Gibson SG Faded Special
Fender DG-10/12 12-stringed acoustic
Ibanez EDB-600

Also have a Yamaha 6-stringed acoustic, but it got tipped over; the headstock snapped. I'll never buy a Yamaha guitar again, the neck is of f**kin' particle board. Cheaply made piece of sh**.

I need another acoustic, I get the most out of them and I require them for my own music. I'd hate to sacrifice my savings attempt towards the Höfner, but hell. I'm thinking of a Martin, when it comes to tone I actually prefer the ones in my price range of around $500-$600. For now I'll have to settle with using my friend's Fender, though it's autographed by Joey Jordison. :x I'm a Slipknot fan as well and I'd hate to use it, but he seems to think he owes me the favor since he accidentally caused the damage to my Yamaha.

So, what about you guys and gals?

Oh I couldn't agree with you more.

I play the piano, violin and some guitar.

Use to assist in teaching music and giving piano lessons, twas a great outlet for me.

Music is a big part of my life. I have played professionally in the sense of together with people making their living as musicians and also getting paid to play, myself. All sorts of styles and instruments. :)

I've been in very many bands but feel composing makes lots of sense to me, emotionally. Also fooling around with keyboard instruments in that there you are able to play all parts yourself. I think that is a thing that really appeals to me.
