Exactly. I have Dyspraxia, but I also seem to have a hatred of loud noise. I was on a train on Friday night, and these people were talking loudly in Spanish, and giggling, and it was about 10pm and I was tired, and I had to stop myself the whole journey from getting up and hitting them. I also listen to music when I go shopping, because I can't stand the noise. I was trying to eat lunch earlier but people were all talking at once and it just made my head hurt. I hate noise...

Also, I make music myself, I sing and play guitar, so it is actually fairly sociable with my friends.

I have that too, but sometimes it just becomes too much and i want peace in my head. At that times i go to the countryside (500 meters away :P) and then i lie down on the grass and then the music fades away... When i get up it takes as long as 2 hours for it to reappear. And then i enjoy it again.

I don't know if it's normal, but honestly, I don't care. Music keeps me sane.

Music's one of the few things that I really care about. I'd be utterly lost without it...

Music keeps me sane. I get withdrawal symptoms after not having practised a specific instrument after two days! Even if I practise say violin, I will get withdrawal symptoms if I don't practise the piano for a couple of days.

I have to have some kind of background noise otherwise the tinnitus gets on my nerves, and usually that's the TV when I'm on the computer (I get moaned at for being unsociable if I listen to music through headphones, but how else can I when people are trying to listen to the TV?!) but I would much prefer music. I'll always have a song going round in my head though. I also get rather tetchy if I can't listen to music for a while.

Wow. There sure are a lot of autistic people around! Everywhere I go I see people listening to music. ;-)

She didn't say that everyone who listens to music outdoors is autistic. :P

I have found that listening to music allows me to connect to myself emotionally. It is a release. I love listening and playing music and find that it helps to ground and relax me, especially after spending a lot of time in a busy city. Next time I'm out walking through Dublin I might try listening to music to lessen the stress of being surrounded by strangers - I've never actually done that!

Definitely, music helps me focus on what I'm doing. Without any music on there's just a lot of ideas floating around in my head and I find it difficult to focus on the task at hand.

It's well inside the ballpark of normality, yes.
I'm old school on this, in that I whistle or hum
or even tap my toes to follow a given rhythm;
I'm not yet rich enough to afford the latest
portable electronic gadget.
