Jandek is indeed a fascinating and possibly aspie character. It's too bad his songs are so cruddy -- genuine recluses are so refreshing in the music industry.

Having lived in Houston for over a decade and well versed in Jandek fact, fiction and lore, I'd say he's far more likely a Schizoid Personality than an Aspie. Just because someone's weird and reclusive doesn't mean they're an Aspie. That kind of reasoning has led people to think Wacko Jacko's an Aspie when it's obvious from an Aspie's point of view that he's not.

I also think the world would be a much better place if The Residents were much more appreciated by the greater parts of society.

If metal went main stram all hell will break loose in radio stations most of them wont even bother blocking swear words out because it will be to hard and u will block out all the cool bits of the song out and if metal went mainsteam which should be never pearents will ring up tv stations asking why there daughter is watching a vedio with people chained to walls with blood comming from the mouth playing a awsome guitar that i want thats why metal couldent be main steam and making generations listening to PG rated crap that thereve been brain washed to like from MTV and other crappy stations.

But most Metal is fairly main stream. In other words if your going to ask your average consumer of contempary popular music what metal is and whether they could name a metal band most would be able to answer it.

Metal was fairly popular during the 1980s', but what I'm really talking about is individual groups not genres.

In my opinion, every single band actually releasing cd's/records and playing gigs are commercial.
Maybe it's the Aspie in me talking, but I don't see why bands should be rediculed and hated for actually having a breakthrough and making it big! It seems to me that it is the people who are unsuccessful who are complaining!
I'm currently learning myself how to play "The Unforgiven" on bass. This is my absolute favourite Metallica song ("The thing that should not be" is a good second) and it's like the lyrics are about my life!
What songs mean to people are the meaning of music, not how much success a band has!

I strongly agree. What these people who oppose this idea don't see is just how badly posers maim the feel of good music. Some of these people believe it's all simple and that there are no posers, just people who listen to it too. What they don't understand is that metal is not just a form of music, it's a lifestyle, an aggressive, nihilistic, rebellious lifestyle. And we look down upon those who would try to change it and weaken it and destroy it. In order to keep something like metal strong is has to remain pure. Their argument against this is that lack of mixing or outside influence keeps a thing from getting strong, but what they don't see is that metal is strongest when pure, and this has been proven, both you and I know this.

The reason they criticize us for being so critical about music is because they're not metalheads, not as we are. They don't breathe it, they don't feel it as we do, it does not run in their veins. Therefore they couldn't understand.

Here is a quote addressing black metal, but can be applied to all real metal. I feel it is called for here.

For the OP - what you want to do (as far as I can tell) is to be an agent... A lot of the work is done for you already.

Another position is what's called A&R (Artist and Repertoire), who work for record companies (as they're still quaintly known... These are the guys that get paid to actually go listen to bands, and hook them up with labels. There may not be major labels close by (closest to me is Mammoth, about 40 miles from here), but there's independent labels in any decent-sized burg...

Fan sites can help; bands like them.

Now - we've got a 2-edged sword here. It's always been true that there's a type of fan who loves the idea that no one has heard of their 'fave' artist, and wail and gnash teeth when they're discovered. That's the artist side.

However, for those who do this for a living, being a starving artist is often a lot more pain and frustration than they'd want. The more people you can reach, the more you get paid, and the sooner you can get back to financial solvency (music is not the 70s 'throw money at them' ideal; most contracts consist of loaning money to the band, and they have to pay that back.. But no one wants to go through life eating Snack Ramen (Breakfast of Thespians...

I could do with some more 'Hurry up Fashion'... But I've been listening to them since about '83...
