I used to download music, and put together a collection of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" covers. I found that one and immediately loved it.

Willow Tree by Chad VanGaalen as they're pushing the burning boat out to sea, just to make them cry. Then It's Not Too Beautiful by The Beta Band just to let them know and then I Am The Resurrection by the Stone Roses just to keep them on their toes.

I like that idea. To go out in real style, that song should be put on after cremation (standing up and tied to a stake).

Then there is the album Song From My funeral, by Snakefarm. St James Infirmary or Laredo would be suitable. If you've heard those before from other singers, forget all about that. What Anna Domino does with those is very different.

There's also Dr Tarr and Professor Fether, or The Cask of Amontillado, both by the Alan Parsons Project.

My guiding principle would be to pick something that hangs, draws and quarters the dignity of the occasion, by being either creepy, weird or cheerful. Or a combination of all three. Not necessarily in the same song, though if someone knows a suitable piece, please do tell.
