I can hear the sounds of laughter
Could it be they're laughing at me
I can hear the roar of thunder
I'm mad I'm deranged
I see
Clown in costumes voices that carry
Their message to my mind I'm
Like a child so young and carefree
My eyes see what they want to see
Lights are flashing. Colors are blurring
There are patterns in my mind
Things are hidden to the world around me
But still they say I'm blind
Wrap me up in a web of lies
Meet the man who's locked inside
I'm too many people in too many places
I've a split personality

Some of you mentioned "How Soon Is Now?" by The Smiths. (I agree.)
Along the same lines (maybe), just watched THE CRAFT for the umpteenth time and, for some reason, this one seems to fit...maybe it reminds me of trying to create a persona with which to "fit in" (and perhaps some references to stimming):

Yes! Thank you! I was waiting for someone else to say "Mad World" (although I prefer the original Tears for Fears version better - it's in a better key signature, imho).
All around me are familiar faces Worn-out places, worn-out faces Bright and early for their daily races Going nowhere, going nowhere Their tears are filling up their glasses No expression, no expression Hide my head, I want to drown my sorrow No tomorrow, no tomorrow
And I find it kind of funny I find it kind of sad The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had I find it hard to tell you 'Cause I find it hard to take When people run in circles it's a very, very Mad world Mad world Mad world Mad world
Children waiting for the day they feel good Happy birthday, happy birthday To feel the way that every child should Sit and listen, sit and listen Went to school and I was very nervous No one knew me, no one knew me Hello, teacher, tell me, what's my lesson? Look right through me, look right through me
If you've ever read Nick Dubin's book Asperger's Syndrome and Anxiety, in it he discusses a type of job anxiety called "existential employment worries," in which an individual on the spectrum experiences dread that they will lose their individuality in the workforce, something I think is very well-expressed in the chorus line of that song.

I also can't help but feel that in an alternate universe Pete Townshend may have written a rock opera featuring an autistic protagonist (perpetuating the theme of isolation/alienation seen in Tommy, Quadrophenia, and Lifehouse).

I feel as if this is an aspie trying to persuade the person he/she loves to love him/her, for the narrator is suffering from unrequited love for someone, and so tries to make a song for him/her. Or maybe it's his vocal delivery, which is beautifully awkward.
