Thanks for posting it!It’s totally okay to get political (or not) here. Whatever goes as long as it’s not unsupportive or snarky in any way or dismissive of women’s struggles, issues, or experiences.
I know you know that. I just felt like saying it.
Yeah, I know. It just gets frustrating when women are portrayed as warriors or goddesses as if they're superhuman caricatures, and their lives are defined by their relationship to men, or their power and/or lack thereof.
I'd prefer a world where we can celebrate women for being average normal people who don't conquer any subset of people, women who might be quiet or gentle, or whatever the heck they were born to be.
I'm not dismissing those who do. I just wanted to represent all women, even the meek or unsuccessful.
I don’t find that frustrating. It’s not like there’s any shortage of male warriors, gods, or superheroes. As someone who loved fantasy when I was growing up, I really appreciated strong female characters in video games and books. It doesn’t mean that I don’t also celebrate normal people.
We have represented a lot of different women in this thread already.

I wasn't complaining and I didn't mean you or your thread were frustrating. I meant that there's a propensity in the media to exalt the warrior types, whether men or women, but most of us are just average people doing the best we can from day to day. That's not to undermine the strong women who've helped us achieve the liberties we have today.

Twilight, I understand this song is not what you had in mind when you created this thread. I do believe Sandy thought she was helping women when she wrote it so it does technically fit the criteria you set for this thread. But I would be very understanding if you requested the mods delete this post.
I was not aware of that song until recently upon seeing those lists. I received a radio for my 12th birthday in 1969 and graduated from children's songs to pop and rock songs. When I look back I find a lot of songs that I can’t believe I thought nothing of or was funny at the time. That said I can not think of any time that I would not have been shocked by those lyrics.
Another song that appears near the top of these lists is a 1963 song written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Jack Jones would win a Grammy for Best Male Vocal for singing it and it would hit #14 on the charts.
Oh man.
Songs like that make me want to wear sweatpants and baggy tee shirts.
