Best way to listen to CDs?

Where do you listen the most? I assume at home.

You need a CD player to play CDs. If you're not going to convert them to digital files, then a CD player is your only option.

Pioneer. My parents have a number of old Pioneer products that sound far superior to anything I've bought by competing brands and have lasted them for years. My current sound system is a Sony but if it breaks down I'm getting a Pioneer.

Oh, yes! I now remember that my car radio was Pioneer and it was the best! Now I bought a JVC and it's not as good, by far. Thank you! I'm shopping for a Pioneer.

If you go to a store to look for CD players, bring some of your favorite CDs with you so you can check out how the player sounds with the music you listen to. I wouldn't bring a big stack of them, though. Maybe one or two with the most dynamic range (soft to loud).

Now, I called the store, and they told me that Pioneer don't do simple CD players. The ones they have cost double what a simple one does. So...anyone have any other recommendations?

You could see if they have portable CD players and then get a set of powered speakers. This is what I have set up next to my bed. The store should be willing to let you try them in the store. I don't know what the cost would be, though, since it's been a while since I've gone looking for CD players. I'm also not up on the best brands. Have you checked out cnet.com? There might be some good information there.

Edit: I just checked and the portable CD player I have is a Sony Discman and it's worked perfectly for almost 10 years now.

You don't know what you're missing. It really pays off to convert your CDs to Ogg Vorbis q2. Then you can load up your Cowon iAudio G3 - you'll be carrying a whole bunch of CDs with you in a device the size of a pager.

I haven't bought a dedicated CD player in like 15 years. The last one I had fell out of my pocket and broke. Converting the CD tracks to audio files is a million times more convenient than relying on a stack of CDs falling all over the place.
