Post the page.

Add a period and a "com" at the end of it.

I'm not an architect but I dreamed of being one all my life. I was, and still am, obsessive about it. But I have worked for the past decade as a deisgner of single-family dwellings.

I am not registered (no schooling) but have been a partner in two different Architectural firms and in the field as an architectural designer for the past 45 years overall. Yes I do agree it is a field where you will find many people with Aspie-like characteristics.

i'm not sure how far this would get me, but could anyone point me in the right direction to see if architecture is for me?

Get to know buildings - you could volunteer for a museum that has significant buildings or deals with historic preservation - that way you do something for the community while at the same time finding out if buildings float your boat (sorry about the mixed metaphor).

Sometimes architectural firms have internship opportunities, but usually university students fill those positions.

that'll be a problem for me, i've found out that i know as much (sometimes more) than people with years of education under their belts because i've studied it in my spare time, or it just comes to me in an instant. i haven't got any qualifications but i do have the brain power and potential needed, only problem is there's not a chance of most places taking me on due to what i lack on paper.

in highschool i took CAD for 3.5 years, and parts of the semester involved architecture courses, in which I designed a teacher's basement for her :P she said it looks great!

I learned much of what I know through self-study and didn't finish graduate school until I was 30. If one door closes you can often find another door that will open for you.

Any Architects out there?

No, not in my case.

For years and years I wondered why I couldn't see/easily see images (buildings) in my head.

The answer, in part, came with the two words: Constructional Apraxia.

http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/apraxia/apraxia.htm

Turns out I am ADHD Inattentive with central auditory processing disorder and mild dyspraxia.

For some reason, for me, a mild stimulant (caffeine) for ADHD Inattentive will temporarily trigger an ability draw in black and white and color with a little more detail and accuracy (not a cure).

Most of the time, some images in my head are close to the idea of a flickering neon light but, for me, the caffeine will temporarily strengthen that to where the neon light is stable (not a cure).

Words

ADHD Inattentive
Central auditory processing disorder
Imagination
Constructional Apraxia - Dyspraxia

Whole vs parts

Attentiveness
Sustained Attention

Memory - Working/short-term, medium-term, long-term

and so on
