Need advice
Hi everybody,
I'm a composer and performer (voice and piano) and I've been setting up my myspace music page with recordings of my original songs. Now a friend did me a huge favour and did a great semi-professional recording (using keyboard, mic and electronic editing) of my song Change, but as I listen to it I keep feeling like it's lost its emotion (not because my friend didn't do a fantastic job, but I think because of the keyboard backing - as opposed to live piano) and I find I personally prefer one of my older live acoustic recordings on piano and voice.
I'm not sure whether this is just because I'm used to hearing myself with acoustic and thus my perception is distorted (and the sound edited one keyboard/voice is actually much better), or whether maybe my music does just sound better with live acoustic/piano backed recordings than the usually used properly sound edited ones. I need to figure this out as I need to continue recording more of my songs, and thus make a decision as to how I'll go about recording them.
Both versions of "Change" are up on the myspace music page, and I'll post a link here. I'd love it if anyone else could listen to each version and tell me (on WP, in a response to this thread) what they think.

I hear exactly what you mean. Nowhere near enough "air" in the piano. The vocal's themselves were very well done, but the piano is just dead (way too much bass too).
I prefer the original as rough as it is.

I'm not likely to be around much longer. As before when I first signed up here years ago, I'm finding that after a long hiatus, and after only a few days back on here, I'm spending way too much time here again already. So I'm requesting my account be locked, banned or whatever. It's just time. Until then, well, I dunno...
