Anyone else here in to Nightwish? I'm a big fan of them but I've never really met anyone else who was, so I thought I'd ask here.
I'm not a fan of the new singer, she's okay, but she's can't compare to Tarja.

Some other, mostly similar bands I like are: Amon Amarth, Finntroll, Epica, Korpiklaani, Eluveitie and Cradle of Filth.

For those who haven't had the pleasure of listening to them here are a few of their songs I like.

This one is very different then most of their music, but really, really good.

I love what I've heard of Nightwish and I agree that they're not the same without Tarja!

I like Sleeping Sun:

and Angels Fall First:

The songs are melodramatic but in the best possible way. Very beautiful and overwhelming. I haven't heard the songs you posted and unfort. can't now cause my comp.'s without sound but I will be sure to listen at a later time!

I enjoy their music I think I will have to listen to more, seems I forgot about them. I remember liking Moon Dance, The Islander, and their cover of The Phantom of The Opera in particular.

I love their music, and would love to see them live, if they ever come to my city. I have tried getting my husband to listen to it, but he has trouble with the early stuff because of Tarja's accent. He says he can't understand what she's saying. However, I did give him the liner notes, so he has read the lyrics and finds many of them beautiful.

I'm into plenty of symphonic metal bands, from Kamelot to Epica, even some of the viking metal bands you listed, or just finnish music in general, especially Sonata Arctica. I can't really get into Nightwish for some reason, though. ;_; I like Delain though. XD

I've never heard of Delain or Sonata Arctica... I'll have to look them up.

Their music has improved since Tarja left, but the new vocals just don't fit.

Yes, I like Nightwish a lot, along with similar bands like it such as Luca Turilli. I haven't heard what Nightwish's new singer sounds like, though, and am commenting on their older music, but I doubt it could be "bad" enough to ruin their music...? :B

'Machinae Supremacy' is another great band that is sort of similar - they call themselves a 'SID metal' band, after the SID sound chip of the past, since they use sounds associated with that sound chip in their music. I love the song 'Hero [ReMaster]', especially... what a great song... -_- the lyrics, too... I've found myself listening to that song over and over again, at times....

You can actually download Hero [ReMaster], along with a lot else of their music, directly from their official site:
