Yesterday I've read what was probably the most beautiful text I've ever saw. It was in The Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons, it was the part where the poet Severn talk to the AI Ummon, in the TechnoCore, it was just so beautiful, I've read it in French tough, so I don't know what it looks like in English. And you, what was your favourite piece of written text? (Not necessarly a novel, it can be ANY written text)

The Monition of Cursing is a hoot, though beautiful it is not. :)

In my English edition of The Fall of Hyperion Ummon seems to be (talking) // A lot // in silly koans // bold speech and strange syntax - maybe it improved in translation?

The lyrics to the classic '60s song Incense and Peppermints appeal to me. I'm not sure what the lyrics mean, but I suppose it's reflective of the general attitude prevalent at the time, i.e. dissatisfaction with societal constructs.

Good sense, innocence, cripplin' and kind.
Dead kings, many things I can't define.
Oh Cajun spice, sweats and blushers your mind.
Incense and peppermints, the color of thyme.

Who cares what games we choose?
Little to win, but nothing to lose.

Incense and peppermints, meaningless nouns.
Turn on, tune in, turn your eyes around.
Look at yourself, look at yourself,
Yeah, yeah.
Look at yourself, look at yourself,
Yeah, yeah,
Yeah, yeah.

Tune-a by the cockeyed world in two.
Throw your pride to one side, It's the least you can do.
Beatniks and politics, nothing is new.
A yardstick for lunatics, one point of view.

Who cares what games we choose?
Little to win, but nothing to lose.

Good sense, innocence, crippled and kind.
Dead kings and many things I can't define.
Oh Cajun spice, sweats and blushers your mind.
Incense and peppermints, the color of thyme.

Who cares what games we choose?
Little to win, but nothing to lose.

Incense, peppermints, incense, peppermints.

Sha-la-la, sha-la-la....
