I'm sure The Doors will always have a very special place in my heart, for two reasons:
1. Until the age of 13, I didn't like any music whatsoever. Nothing. I didn't hate it; it just didn't provoke any positive feelings in me (very difficult to imagine now, since these days I seem to love everything). This all changed when I saw Apocalypse Now: after the first four or five notes on the guitar, I was in love. I have no idea why The End hit me so deeply where nothing else had made the slightest connection, but it opened the floodgates to what's become one of the biggest loves of my life - music.
2. The Doors were the first band I listened to after losing my virginity. Specifically, their album The Soft Parade. Even before that, I was among those Doors fan who absolutely adore The Soft Parade, and associating it with the first time I had sex (which was a very positive experience) has made it all the more powerful, especially the first couple songs (both of which had totally appropriate titles for the situation).
My top 10 favourite songs, in no particular order (given my comments above, the first three shouldn't be too surprising... those will almost certainly remain constant, but I can see the others changing frequently):
The End
Tell All the People
Touch Me
Been Down So Long
Alabama Song (Whisky Bar)
Runnin' Blue
When the Music's Over
Waiting for the Sun
LA Woman
Riders on the Storm
I was only considering their first six studio albums there. I think Celebration of the Lizard also deserves a mention.
