Original Epcot Music

I was born in 1983, and I was taken to Epcot. My birth family is full of musicians so my musical memory is my strongest . . . and my adoptive family (along with my brain) is nerdy, so Epcot holds a special place in my heart. I had major sensory issues with most parks, but Epcot was my favorite (I would have dreams about it weekly or more as a child) and my parents always took me when it was raining (on purpose . . . it reduced the crowds and the noise). I loved everything about it . . . it is a major reason for my love of 80's technology and vision.

When I was very little and the cassette was new, I got a copy of the original Epcot music. I listened to it nearly nonstop; by the 90's, I already needed to dub over to new cassettes to preserve SOME original quality. My mother still holds my original copy for me. I love every second of the album for a variety of reasons . . . the entrance medley appeals to my classical music love, the pavilion themes to my love of old sci-fi, and the educational music, especially that about science, makes me think as a living being. "Universe of Energy" and "Energy (You Make the World Go Round)" fill me with scientific passion.

When I feel nothing matters, I turn here. My roommate and best/only friend gifted me with a download of the two missing songs from my collection this week, and now carries backups of the full collection on his hard drive and portable for me.

It is definitely a special interest; it's a lifeline of wonder on this planet earth [ . . . lyric from the music . . .]

Is anybody else interested in this? Or even Epcot?

Wow!! ! Me too!! ! I loved the original EPCOT music. I went there in 1986 and bought the record of the music. I loved it!! ! One of the songs that always stuck in my head was "Listen to the Land." I also loved the stuff from The Universe of Energy. Well---I loved them all actually---all of it was great. I am happy to have read your post because I believe I appreciate that music as much as you do.

Listen to the Land is great! It always makes me feel such harmony with nature (along with a burden). Universe of Energy is amazing . . . when I'm feeling down, I listen to it, and no matter where I am, it puts things in such persepective. Suddenly I want to obsess over the quark to define the multiverse. Everything looks so clear.

It is amazing that you feel the same way. I want to ask you how the songs make you think and feel, but if this topic is better addressed in PM, feel free!

Today the original EPCOT music still maintains a very happy uplifting feel in me. But, it also makes me a bit melancholy because it was 1986 when I heard it---I was in college, my parents were younger, my girlfriend got to go with us (we are now married with 2 sons), and it seemed like a special time in my life.

In 1986 I was getting into synthesizers in a serious way. I worked up the music to "Listen to the Land" on them. The song always made me feel happy and refreshed. I love its up tempo and folk-inspired sound. It has a familiar kind of sound to me---like something that's always been in me. It also sounds very friendly. I remember when I was in college that the song would motivate and inspire me.

The Universe of Energy song with the lyrics "here we go, here we go, in the Universe of Energy..." always held a mystical and magical feel to it---especially with the beginning part before the singing. And once the singing began...with its upbeat and driving sound...I felt very excited about it. It's hard to explain exactly the feeling it gave me...but I really loved the song.

The other songs were great too...but those two songs seemed to be the ones I remember the most.

I work seasonally at Walt Disney World. This means that I work one week a year at my location. I've been going to Disney World since I was about 15 months old. Epcot is my favorite theme park. I love the music there. I was there last year on an internship when they brought Captain EO back on July 2. I asked to have July 1st and 2nd off so that I could wake up early for the big day. I went because I'm such a huge fan of Michael Jackson. You should have heard the audience cheer the moment he appeared back up on that 3D screen.

I was so scared of Captain EO as a kid! It's funny, but the rocks flying really freaked me out. But now I love it. Epcot is the best; just moved to the west coast, so Disney is a bit lacking. It's like Magic Kingdom and MGM with no Epcot. =(
