Well, the title really probably didn't help much. but can anyone suggest something artist/song wise that would be classified under metal and such and are known for both slower, heavy pieces (not going for high speed tempos here) that also have some sections that have a more floaty/dreamlike quality to them, perhaps in intros or ambiance. I need to listen to more examples of it to get myself into the groove for working on a certain piece I want to do.

The only band myself that I think fits, but doesnt (because they arent metal, they are more along the lines of goth rock) is Darling Violetta, the song "smaller god" in particular. Yes, this stuff will fit the gothic label, but I want to do something other than pure shred/Thrash/Fast paced for once and I feel the darker slower rhythms and more floaty leads/ambients COULD work.

Isis has quite a bit of what I am looking for, especially the song "In fiction"
Sunn 0))) also has some aspects/is similar, but is a bit too ambient at times.
Neurosis fits the bill as well.

Gotta find more Doom/Funeral Doom metal for some influences, perhaps some shoegaze tossed in as well.

Have you listened to "kraut rock", such as Tangerine Dream?

I personally don't think that's the stuff he's looking for man.

@Dunnyveg : Not exactly what I am looking for, Uprising basically hit the nail on the head.

Now if I could find some stuff similar to Sigur Ros as well, id be happy.

I would suggest:

Ufomammut
Zeni Geva
5ive

And also, even though their respective genre's aren't classified strictly as 'Metal':

SWANS (their 1985 to 1990 era)
Caspar Brotzmann
Ash Ra Tempel
Taj Mahal Travellers
Farflung
Seven That Spells
Les Rallizes De Nudes (Esp. "Heavier Than a Death In The Family")
Älgarnas Trädgård (Their seminal "Framtiden är ett Svävande Skepp, Förankrat i Forntiden" release)

UFOmammut : I am liking quite a bit

Going to look into the rest of the bands when I get a chance, too busy working on my own stuff at the moment.

Listen to lots of "Post Black Metal" or whatever. I can't really think of anything specifically at the moment, other than Alcest, which isn't really metal, but wtf.

Post Black Metal is a genre now?

What's next, Post Industrial Death Rock?
