Sometimes I can't stop listening to a song

Whenever I discover a song that's just incredibly amazing I will listen to it for hours without end. And then it'll be midnight, and I'll think "ok you really have to go to bed" but I just can't! I have to hear the song once more.. and again.. and again... until it might well be 4 am.

Could that be some kind of obsession or is that kind of behaviour normal for music fans?

I do the same thing, just not quite as extreme. I frequently become attached to a song or album, and simply cannot tear myself away from listening to it all the time. I could go for weeks or more just listening to the same stuff over and over again. I am also a music fanatic, and i pick apart the songs as i listen to them.

Even with songs that I've already heard plenty of times. Now, do you ever listen to a song so many times it seems you'll never stop listening to it, and then all of a sudden a few days later you realize you aren't listening to it and don't really want to? What happened?

I've been on a Gogol Bordello kick for some months. I like to watch the Start Wearing Purple video as Eugene Hutz runs his hand - which has a high heel shoe on it - up his arm. The band has a lot of energy and they fascinate me. I love the Romani/multi-cultural blend and I find them raw and honest. Serge and Eugene do a wonderful number with Madonna. I have watched Sun is on My Side (acoustic version) I don't know how many times. Also, Through the Roof and Underground.

I've done the same with Leonard Cohen - particularly Bird on a Wire, Tom Petty - I Won't Back Down ... when I hook on to a song or artist - I play them to exhaustion. Sometimes I want to share with people and sometimes I don't want to share at all - the music becomes very personal. Music is really important to me. Sometimes I need it to say what I can't.

The following are some of the songs I've listened to ad infinitum.

4. Last Chance by Shooting Star
5. Nothing Compares To You by Sinead O'Connor

I didn't have a choice listening to No. 5 over an over. This prostitute was hanging out in m hotel room in Hollywood. She'd sit on the floor crying, playing that track over and over on a cassette deck. Bizarre scene indeed.

I get that as well now and again.

I'm the same way. I listen to all the nuances I didn't hear the first hundred times I listened. My husband laughs because right now I love Muse so much and every time he gets in the car to go somewhere he has to take the Muse CD out in order to listen to something else. The funny thing was I caught him earlier today listening to Muse and I told him he needed to listen to something else because I'm tired of hearing Muse all the time.

I have phases of lstening to one particular song over and over and over again. I usually don't have music on when doing other things, and am not a terrible music fanatic, but when I get stuck on a song, I usually hav eit on repeat for a while.

I’ve always played the same song over and over again. I find it helps my mind to focus.

Ballads take me to a place I feel happy, even the sad songs make me feel happy.

I love the sincerity of a great voice, perfect escapism.

I usually listen to a particular song repeatedly whenever I write; I feel it helps me relax and concentrate on something other than real life. I also do it during a car/bus ride sometimes if I don't feel like talking. If people see I have headphones on, they usually don't strike up a conversation with me. But it really helps ideas for writing replace my thoughts of real life and all the problems that come along with it.

I can do this but I don't listen to stuff to that level.
Though yeah sometimes I listen to a song over and over again for days... then I do the same but with a different song.
Though I do try and mix it up by listening to 1 or 2 others as well.
