Contermelody

For the longest time, I'd have discussions with people about music, show them what I like (artists of several different genres), and I'd get a common reaction of "it's too much". Not as in "wall of sound" but something else. Then I realized they are talking about COUNTERMELODY! A lot of the artists I love tend to use countermelody and I think it not only creates texture and a beautiful sound, but also soothes my brain.

Does anyone else like songs composed with countermelody? That's not the same thing as harmony!

I find it easy to compose countermelody, too.

i geartly enjoy some countermelody in my music.
also, as a musician, the pieces i enjoy playing most are the ones where i'm the one doing the countermelody

I always used countermelody or "call and echo" in my compositions...

Even though most of the pieces I listen to are more melody and accompaniment in nature, I do love writing countermelodies! Doing them well, on the other hand, is a struggle I still have yet to work through...

Here's one of my favorites! A really great fugue begins around 3:20, and another fugal section happens a bit later in the piece. One of my favorite pieces! Also, is countermelody the same thing as counterpoint?

So it is the same thing as polyphony? That's what was confusing me.
