There was quite a heated debate on this on another board where I post, so I thought it was maybe interesting to hear the opinions of the art-loving aspies here :)

The latest big export product from my adopted home country are a group of guys aged 18 to 20. Some classify it as poppy rock or emo, while other resourced in a serious way use the tag "alternative rock". The band has been quite popular in Germany already since the boys were only 16, and have now realised a breakthrough internationally with an album containing English versions of some of their most famous German language songs they recorded before. Tokio Hotel have been selling out stadiums already and have been programmed at a few big festivals across Europe.

I must admit I kinda like a few of their songs. "Übers Ende diesen Welt" (Ready, Set, Go) sounds very catchy for example, but the more emo side of me also kinda likes "Monsoon" and "Don't jump". Their other songs haven't really gotten to me, must say I did not give their entire back catalogue a listen and mainly know some songs from local radios, but the ones I just named have been in my playlist for several weeks now...

Guilty pleasure or not?

PS: their singer looks great, I like make-up on men.

I don't listen to much commercial music but I kinda liked Monsoon.

It's emo but I kinda like that song as well :D I prefer the German version though, "Durch den Monsun". I do prefer Bill Kaulitz' adult voice rather than his puberty voice, but the German lyrics for that particular song sound a bit better IMO. Songs like "Don't jump" or "Scream" ("Spring nicht" and "Schrei") sound better in English IMO.

Oh well, none of those songs are really groundbreaking or top quality musicwise or lyricswise, but it is catchy music that just sticks to the brain and that makes me want to just rock and sing along. :) I would kinda like to buy their album, but at my age (26) the record store staff probably will be looking very strangely when I ask for a Tokio Hotel record... I can always say I am buying it as a present for my teenage cousin of course :D

Tell about that dream please :D

I am actually deciding to buy their CD. Guilty pleasure or not, I listen to it a lot lately so then buying the CD is justified. Songs like "Ready Set Go" or "Scream" are ideal to sing along to and let the frustrations out after a long working week. I'd actually like to see them in concert, pity they don't play in Berlin and Dortmund is quite far away (but the upside is that none of my friends could recognise me there :D )

I do take a few words back from my previous post: the more I listen to it, the more I prefer their German versions. The translations are not that bad but the lyrics just sound better in German I'd say.

PS: listening to "Durch den Monsun" as I am typing this 8)

Well here's how it goes..

Me, KayTee, Clari-chan, Elly, Aaron G (friends IRL) and other followers of Tokio Hotel were all on a train...

We were all escaping our lives, in the boring world..to go to a new life!

Then the train after a while came to the ocean!

Then it speeded across the ocean like in the music Video of 1000 Meere..

Then it kept on speeding, as we all talked, smiling as we were escaping our lives!

then the train reached the land and got progressively slower as it reached Madgeburg, Germany, where Tokio Hotel originated from..

and the band was there! We then came off the train and talked to them..

Then we all erected a place of worship for the band!

It was a cross between a Shinto Shrine, a Temple, a Mosque, a Church, etc etc..The place of worship indeed was pretty!

Then we formed a choir, singing to our Gods!

Then, we all saw pretty blue skies with few white clouds with pretty green grasses and sights..

Then we all sang in the choir...singing pretty music, the songs from Tokio Hotel..

Then I woke up, seeing the morning sun!

Please comment on my dream :)

although, I do think he was a bit cuter when he was younger. Now he kinda looks like a washed up drag queen. although the look does suit him.

I am biased probably as I wear make-up myself, but I really like his look. Although I like a bit of androgyny myself, I disagree that he looks female. Make-up on men doesn't need to make you look female, especially given his hair and his overall style I think he still looks masculin enough and it suits him well.

PS: I've been wearing make-up for several years myself so has nothing to do with Bill.

:) People always think he's a girl when I show them. I'm like...no, he's obviously male.

Many people commenting that way just dislike make-up on men for conservative/stereotypical reasons. I get some nasty comments for it myself now and then, mostly people either calling me a girl or gay (and I am neither of both). Some people like to tag people and stick to their stereotypes.

Bill definitely doesn't look female.

I love most of their songs, but they're all just terrible in English. I cringe whenever those songs are even mentioned.

Um, this thread is from three years ago.

Also, Tokio Hotel blows. Their music is probably the most forgettable s**t I've ever heard.
