Lovesongs do not always have to express love for another person. Sometimes you can use as passionate and emotional words to express your love for something different. Music itself for example.
And rightfully so. Music is something which is loved universally, and which can save lives as we can emotionally hold on to music. Music can be our best friend, one that is always there for you and never lets you down.
Which songs do you think express the emotional power of music itself in the best way?
My vote would go to The Smiths song "Rubber ring". The song compares how music can emotionally keep you alive, give you something to hold on to when you are drowning in problems. The rubber ring you throw in the water to someone drowning, is the reference for the title: music can be the rubber ring you can emotionally hold on to when trying to avoid drowning in problems.
Some lines from the lyrics:
A sad fact widely known: the most compassionate song to a lonely song is so easily outgrown
But dont forget the songs that made you smile, and the songs that made you cry
...
The passing of time and all of its crimes is making me sad again
But dont forget the songs that made you cry, and the songs that saved your life
Yes you are older now, and you re a clever swine, but they [the songs] were the only ones who ever stood by you...
....
And when you are dancing, and laughing, and finally living: here my [the vocalist] voice in your head and think of me kindly
To me this song like no other summarises the incredible emotional power of music. Music is indeed a rubber ring, a lifesaver. But there must be other songs that praise the global love for music, a love that everyone shares regardless of what type of music or what bands help him through the hard times. I am sure anyone in this world has a band or a singer who has helped him through in some troubled times. Which songs in your opinion best summarise the love for music and the emotional power of a song?

Music is my best friend i suppose, its always been there for me & live & breath i every single day. i cannot live without music, it keeps me going seriously i think.yes, certain artist & songs have saved my life with notable groups being the Beatles, Smiths, Beach Boys, & artists that have always help me through difficult times: john lennon, morrissey, elliott smith, fiona apple..
its strange how the artists i listen to have all gone though bad times & you kind of feel like your not alone.
my fav song ever is the beatles Strawberry Fields Forever:
"no one i think is in my tree!" (i can relate to that line cause i've always felt different!)
Morrissey's helped me a lot in recent times with his lyrics. i can relate to them so much. there are certain lines in songs that you can relate in your own way & how can you be so open in a song like the Smiths 'How Soon Is Now' "i am human & i need to be loved just like everybody else does!"

Weezer - In The Garage
'I've got an electric guitar
I play my stupid songs
I write these stupid words
And I love every one.'
I like that one too, and I've never even listened to Weezer very much.
How about "Young, Fast, Scientific" by The Dictators? ("Rock and roll made a man out of me . . . ")

actually, Manic Street Preachers also did a great cover version of this song.
I am glad that nobody mentionned "Music" by John Miles yet. Although clearly an ode to music itself, it is cheesy as hell...
