Can you draw faces?

I'm wondering if this is an AS thing. I have a lot of trouble drawing people, especially faces. Animals, landscapes, that sort of thing is usually no problem.
So, other people who do art: Can you draw faces? Expressions?
Just wondering, curious.

My drawn faces look like something out of middle school, to be honest.
My drawing specialty lies with abstract line arrangements.

hrmm, i wonder if this is an aspie-artist thing....i do a lot of illustrating and i find everything else (including horses) easier to draw than people. landscapes, architecture, and pretty much everything else except people, and especially their faces....one thing i always found strange is that i can draw human hands as well as anything else...just not faces and bodies/postures.

I'm not so sure about your theory. Although I'm very slow, I think I can draw faces pretty well for someone who draws so very little. I have more trouble drawing the rest of the body.

I can't for the life of me figure out how to draw hair though. All of the portraits I attempt end up unfinished as a result.

Yeah, accurate portraits and detailed facial expression has always been pretty much impossible for me. I can draw faces though they're stock or basic faces, nothing unique, just a place holder with all the basics really.

I might be unusual for an aspie in this respect. Although I for the most part didn't learn to draw faces from looking at faces, I learned from looking at comic books mostly. Check out my stuff here:

Actually, faces and hair are the easiest part of a person for me to draw. Though to be honest, it's only anime faces that I'm good at drawing; not realistic ones. And I have a lot of trouble with drawing every part of the body below the chest.

I don't *like* to do faces. I can copy a face photo or portraint painting 'technically'.....but NEVER to my perfectionistic satisfaction..... but I would NEVER do a live (live sitter) portrait. Compared to the sum of art I have done over the years, the percentage that contain the 'human image' is extremely small. I don't have a good feel for faces and bodies.....knowing them doesn't come naturally to me, because I haven't spent much time AT ALL observing such things. I paint and draw WHAT I AM ATTRACTED TO artistically......and it doesn't happen to be people's faces and bodies. People say my paintings are like idealistic escape places.....like peaceful or moody dreams......I like to do flower scapes, insects, landscapes, inner psychology, and *experimental works* of *discovery*.

Use a lot of 3d programs...yes...

I'm horrible at drawing faces. I am amazing at fantasy type stuff like Dragons, but thats it.

I was thinking more non-anime, non-cartoon faces. "Realistic" faces.
I'll try to draw an expression, and unless I have a photo of it in front of me, I tend to be pretty lost. I can try, but it won't look right.

People are what I draw best.

It depends on what kind of face it is... if it's cartoon, I can probably do it, if it's anime or realistic....probably not.

Yep, I do generally need one in front of me to get realism. But I can draw one; I've done a lot of work on my drawing in studying from the great masters and the anatomy of the human body, and how to render it in 3-D space. But the human head did give me some difficulty, even with all that. I do need to get in more practice, though.

Even with a photo, I don't do all that well. I can vector (basically cartoonize) a face, but since that's more shadows and highlights than expressions, it's not quite the same. Postures have always driven me nuts too.

I think it's kind of ironic that a lot of the issues we have with drawing people lie simply in posture and facial expressions, two things that aspies tend not to pick up the subtleties of when speaking to someone else. So here's a question for those of you who do do alright with faces (and postures): Are you good (or at least better than most aspies) at picking up on people expressions and understanding what they mean?

But I suppose the bigger question on whether this is an AS-related trait is whether or not a majority of NTs have difficulty doing faces and postures. We've got to have information about both sides of the situation, if we're going to assume a theory.

Yes I'm quite good at drawing faces.. but it helps a lot when the person has a lot of obvious features.
