Is there a way, like a pill I could take to prevent feelings of falling for someone. I feel I fall in love much too easily and I've had my heart broken way too many times as a result. I think I'm just done with being left with a feeling of hopelessness.
How do you prevent falling in love?

Andrew, you could actually split the feelings of love from the person. You could see the 'falling in love' like a frequency on a radio - a frequency you're very prone to picking up.

The two don't have to go together. When you fall in love, you are giving yourself permission to tune into Swoon FM (or whatever you want to call it). I'm not saying that you can't link the two together, but if you logically understand the process, you'll be a bit more...detached when it comes to evaluating your romantic partner.

If you are prone to very strong romantic feelings, this is a good way to see it. Either that, or you deliberately set out to break your heart as many times as you can, in various soul-destroying experiences, so you'll never tune into Swoon FM ever again.

You can seperate yourself from your feelings so that most of what you feel is numbness. I did that and it lasted for several years. It makes life meaningless. You do want to be able to love, and hate.

Smudge, are you saying that life always equates to feelings? You make a good point - I'm not saying he has to go the whole hog. But when a feeling is debilitating his life in a certain way, wouldn't it be better to take a little control of it?

the OP can avoid this if he learns how to be his own best friend. when one is one's own best friend that takes the sting out of being bereft of external companionship, the lions' share of which is counterfeit at best.

its not something I look for and I keep my interaction to a minimum. The problem is that I'm prone to developing feelings when someone instigates contact with me, particularly if she is being nice to me. If feels like everything gets magnified and suddenly I'm falling in love.

when one gets old like me, nobody expresses interest in one anymore so that will eventually save the OP from his problem, he just has to wait long enough.
