The probability seems quite high. Anyone can google the dancing bot built by Jordan Wolfson in the US, the robot replica of Scarlett Johanssen built by Hong Kong's Ricky Ma, China's Jia Jia robot, and Japan's Project Aiko, and see where this is going.

Well, last week my closest male friend (whom I've known for over 30 years) dropped a bomb on me when he said he wants to not only build what he calls a "love-bot", but he wants to actually crowdfund mass production of it. I admit this is partly my fault, because he knows I have over 20 years' experience in working with metal alloys and silicone rubber mix, and a couple of years ago I wrote a story which flopped but not before my friend could read it and develop a major crush on its female main character. He has over 20 years' experience in computer programming and knows it would be possible to develop a bot that could walk, talk, see, hear, eat, drink, cry... and possibly LOVE. Believe me I know the technology already exists to pull this off. David Levy, author of Love And Sex With Robots, says this will happen by 2050. I think it will happen a lot sooner than that.

I can only speak for myself when I say a "love-bot" would be just the thing for me when I want a little stimulating conversation or a woman I can hug and take out to dinner... my buddy has been through a very nasty divorce and it seems to me he wants to do this to get back at his ex. He is great at analyzing details but he often fails to see the big picture. I think he doesn't understand how very disruptive it would be if it indeed became possible to plunk down a couple thousand bucks, select a bot from a catalog, and a week later she arrives at your house.

Women probably wouldn't appreciate getting dumped for a machine. Men who want to become biological dads would have no use for a bot either. But regardless of whether my buddy eventually comes to his senses or not, the genie is already out of the bottle, and the law of supply and demand will take over. An article in the Daily Mail from last April says that 26% of men, when asked, said they'd date a robot (the response from women was not recorded).

Remember before the 2016 election, how some of us thought Trump didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning the election, and we were complacent enough to laugh about it? Then he won and the initial reaction was shock, followed by an almost fatalistic negativity when we relized we'll have to put up with him for the next 4 years. I predict somethng similar will happen when the bot revolution gets underway.

Anything that has the possibility to love and I mean really love has the capability to not love also because of the nature of the emotion.

Also imagine how boring having a perfect partner would be who only loves you because it is programmed to.

Although would be good for those who need companionship

Science fiction movies have a way of making robots appear seamlessly fluid in movements where its hard to tell if its a machine. We're so far away from that kind of A.I. at the moment that a love-bot would appear extremely awkward.

A couple months ago I watched a documentary on love dolls and found it entertaining and educational. As a single male adult I think a robot girlfriend isn't far-fetched. But we aren't yet at a technological point where it seems like a profitable endeavor. If people want to try to push the product forward and continue improving the idea then I wish them the best. Maybe in 30 years I'll retire with one if I'm still be single.

There would be robot boyfriends too.

True. That still makes the divorce one accurate.

This makes me think of some strange oral sex. Like you'd be able to detach the robots head and put it in your bag for when you goto work.

I would of been interested in this when I was single. The only way I'd be interested now is if I could have one of the iCarly star, Miranda Cosgrove if it would not only look like her but have her personality & talent.

This brings up an interesting question: If your partner has sex with the robot is there reason to be jealous?

It will make some people jealous, there are people who get jealous if a partner watches porns.

Believe it or not, some people are indeed «insecure» enough, such that they would even get jealous of their partner even glancing at anybody else... I suppose in this case it would be anything else...

There would be robot boyfriends too.

Boyfriend-robots would be less-likely for sex-purposes since female-arousal usually needs to pass through multiple stages and the «reciprocal» emotions/feelings would probably be lacking from a machine (then again it is entirely possible for the so-called laws-of-physics to change on us such that telepathy with robots becomes possible if not already). Hey, you never know, some of those animé-shows depict societies with androids/cyborgs that have integrated with human-culture and/or vice-versa and given enough time, many ideas thought to belong in the realm of science-fiction turned out to either be a reality or even quite primitive in comparison to the actual reality that manifested !

I'd still rather take a human being over a machine.

Unless it was indistinguishable from a human it would be pretty weird, who knows tho with how technology has advanced maybe it is possible.

I think it would be great to have robots available for sex especially for men. A lot of times when a couple is married one will lose interest in the other sexually, but this does not mean that they still don't enjoy the others' company and the life they have together. Sex robots would be great for married men who still have an interest in sex.

I'll answer your question with a question. If you got dumped in favor of a machine, would you want word of it to get around?
