& i agree, Tea. We're in no way what the majority like, we all just chimed in because we do have the same ideas on it.

Oh, you're not, but it is reflective of an attitude I've seen a lot of. Go onto any dating site and you'll see women who say they are x height, so they'll only consider a guy who is x+n height.

Not all women are that shallow, but a lot are! I know I'm better off without them, which is why I'm probably better off single.

A lot of women that do dating sites are there because their standards are too high. Seriously, don't think for one second they are the typical woman because they're not.

That's quite comforting actually, since they're the only women I ever get a chance to interact with IRL I was sort of beginning to think that they were representative of all women...

When I was younger I was passed up on a couple of times for being either too tall (I'm 6ft1) or - on one occasion - not being tall enough (she was 5ft8 and wanted to wear heels ... wtf?!).

6"1 is a goood height.

I'm a little over 6' myself, but I usually get passed up period.

I've seen profiles from women who said they didn't want someone who was too tall, so it may not be too uncommon...

I'm only 5 feet tall, so I don't have height preferences. Unless hobbits and oompa loompas have come into the dating scene, pretty much everyone is taller than me.

I've been turned down for being too short - not just on dating sites, and criticised for being too gentle.

I have a theory.

Humans haven't come that far since being the biggest thug was the best way to status and food. The vast majority of humans, in my experience, will quite happily ride roughshod over anyone less strong.

A big guy remains, in some instinctive part of the brain of most females, a guarantee of security against those other big males. A rough guy can fight off all those big males.

Thus, a gentle guy who is 163cm (about 5'4") doesn't meet up to those standards hard-wired since our ancestors were fighting each other and hunting animals on the plains of Africa.

Not being able to make proper eye contact and do all the other things required of a social species doesn't help. It also doesn't help when those same flaws, along with little things like honesty and integrity, are exactly what will get you turned down for jobs (there's still no evidence I'll be able to catch that metaphorical impala, never mind get it past the big cavemen!). Employers don't want honest employees. They want someone who will lie when granny comes in and complains.

This is why I've spent most of my life alone.

with anger management issues
who are emotionally immature
who are self defeatists
who are messier than me
who are less ambitious than me
who want a "mother"
who's idea of a hobby is playing video games and watching movies

I come from teh Jews.... men not exactly known for height. My male family members seem to be marrying off without issue despite their height challenges.

Whether a guy can kick someone else's butt doesn't really cross my mind. I would prefer friends & partners who can resolve a conflict through words.

I didn't pick my husband based on whether he could beat up a guy, either. He is non-confrontational and usually just ignores someone that's being an ass.

Hell, there's only been twice where he got protective of me and I had to tell him to calm down. I can protect myself just fine.

But then again, I'm 5'9" and he's 6'. Most people don't f**k with either of us. lol
